Strengths: Powerful, easy controls and setup
Weaknesses: None yet
Summary: I'm using this receiver to power 6 speakers in a large room using both A and B channels. Does a great job with power to spare. I'm using it with XM radio; the sound is clean even at high volumes. For the price, you can't go wrong with this Onkyo receiver.

Strengths: Good clear stereo sound, still has PHONO input - useful to me since I have quite a few LPs!
Weaknesses: Could have more tone adjustment - only bass and treble available!
Summary: My superb Luxman receiver was probably fried by the lightening. The Onkyo TX8511 as the replacement did a pretty decent job, although can't compare to the $1K Luxman RV-371, for about 1/4 of the cost!

Strengths: Discret circuitry, very low THD
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I have three of these in my house. One in my bedroom, and one in each of my two living rooms. I listen to everything in Hi-Fi, and the 8511 is the best bang for the buck. Each unit I have powers two pairs of Bose 401 speakers, which also come highly reccomended.

Strengths: No Hissing. Cheap. Clean.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: I bought Onkyo TX8511 for about one week now and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It has good sound quality from a great brand specializes in amplifiers. I tried cranking it up with my CD player stopped, there's just a tiny bit hissing sound. Although it's refurbished, it looks brand new and costs 50% less than a brand new one. GREAT value! The only reason I'm hesitant to give a perfect 5 rating is because I own it for only 1 week, there's no way to evaluate the most important part of a refurbish item, reliability.
