Strengths: Small light wieght, Excellent picture, Dual headphones,A/V output, good sound quality, easy setup.
Weaknesses: Big remote control
Summary: Did alot of research and found the LS50 to be the best for the money. It is on exspencive side but you get a total package. Some models are cheaper and have a few of the LS50 options but not all.The dual headphones come in handy when traveling with another, A/V output when you want to show a movies on a larger screen, and the LS50 is capable of reading different DVD formats. If you travel alot this is great way to pass the time away. I would recomend or purchase another for friend or family.

Strengths: Slim, light, adjustable screen, excellent image and sound quality.
Weaknesses: A bit pricy, short manufacturing warranty (90 days labor).
Summary: This DVD player is incredibly slim and light. We initially wanted to use our light-weight laptop for a road trip, but so glad we got this instead. What a difference, you hardly felt the weight at all!
The image and sound on this player is simply amazing, and one of the coolest features is the swivel screen. It is adjustable to different vewing angles, and even lie flat(almost) on the body itself if you have a really tight space.
The battery lasts pretty well if it is fully charged. Though there was a mail-in rebate for the car/plane power adapter and carrying case, it would be nice if they are included in the first place, kinda troublesome since I have no idea when they will arrive, and the adapter would be very helpful for longer trips.
Since this is my first portable DVD player, I can't make comparisons, but I think it is very well-made, solid build, has an excellent playback quality, definitely a great buy.

Strengths: compact, adjustable widescreen display, built-in Dolby/DTS decoders, great remote, great overall design
Weaknesses: small display for the price (this is premium quality and you get what you pay for, but....)
Summary: This Panasonic DVD player is a great all-in-one unit to watch your DVD's while traveling. Whether using stand alone in a car or plane, or you want to hook it up to a TV/sound system while visiting family, friends or any old hotel...this DVD player rocks. It comes with all the necessary connection cables and a great full-featured remote control (with good operating distance!)It has the slick Panasonic "A/V Enhancer" button which optimizes audio and video with the push of a button (a great feature shared with many Panasonic A/V products) Built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders, progressive scanning, adjustable forward-reverse-up-down tilting/pivoting widescreen display (does not turn/twist left or right),offers great image and sound quality with a sleek case design. Worth every penny! However, if you still need more features and larger dispaly screens, Panasonic offers even pricier models in its portable DVD family!

Strengths: excellent picture, good layout of controls
Weaknesses: battery life
Summary: if you are planning on using this on an airplane, either pack a spare battery if you have a long flight or make sure you have the airline approved adapter. the regular 12 volt car adapter will not work (duh.)

Strengths: Versatile screen positioning. Lightweight. Nice picture quality. Very Sleek and Stylish Design. Plays DVD-Ram.
Weaknesses: Remote is kinda big. A/V out but no A/V in :( Still a bit pricey compared to other 7" models.
Summary: This is really a nice Portable DVD Player! The picture quality is great for its class. Even with the battery installed, the unit is light and comfortable but still feels more "solid" than its competitors. There are TWO built in headphone jacks. The sound is as good as can be expected from such small speakers. The Screen is attached with two hinges instead of one which allows for a wide range of viewing angles. You can open the screen up and then lay it down almost flat.
The battery charges in just shy of 4 hours and lasts about 2.5 hours (you can lower the brightness for longer battery life). The multiple viewing angles come in handy because although you can view the screen from a large angle below, if you get above the screen at all it "ghosts out". (this seems to be the opposite of most of the models i looked at).
The unit plays many different formats without problem. I put a cd-r full of .jpg pictures and it allows you to view them by name or by thumbnails. I can record TV shows directly onto DVD-Ram with my panasonic E-80 and watch them on this unit while traveling.
Now for the "not so good" (didn't say "bad"):
1. The full featured remote is also, unfortunately, full sized. To me this is a bit big for a portable. However, the many buttons and jog dial on the player eliminate the need for the remote when traveling. 2. I would have liked to have Audio/Video input capabilities, especially at this price level.
Although, the DVD-LS50 is priced a little higher than other 7" models, I am hoping that the quality and versatility (viewing angle and disc formats) will be worth the extra dough. The mail-in offer for a free carrying case and car/plane adapter (through 3/36/05) takes some of the sting out.
In The Box: DVD-LS50, Rechargable battery pack, Remote control, Two AA Bateries, Power cable, Instruction Manuals/Warranty papers and A/V out cable.

Strengths: Light weight, Compact, Good picture quality, Excellent built in speaker, tilt screen
Weaknesses: "Full size" remote, Doesn't play all movie file formats, Noise when reading CD or DVD
Summary: It's an awesome player!!! I did lots of research on the internet for this player before I bought this. People highly recommended this player. I should have bought this player long time ago because I thought that the price would come down but it does not. It went up and I kept waiting and checking at pricegrabber. Until last week, the price came down a little bit and I decided to buy this time. The picture is bright and sharp. The sound from the built in speaker is very clear and lond. I haven't tried the headphones yet. The screen tilts to any position. The battery is so small and light. You can't even tell when you snap it in. I have saved a lot of movie files but unfortunely I cannot play them with this player. The remote is a full size. It's too big for me. You will hear the noise when the player reads the CD or DVD. Anyway, I would highly recommend this player. You will be happy and so am I. Also, you will get free carrying case and car/airplane adapter by mail in rebate. I just sent out the rebate and hope to get them soon. If you want portable DVD player, this is the one!!!

Strengths: The battery pack lasted through two movies (on low setting) without charging. It was very easy to unpack, set up and use the DVD player. Recharging the battery was easily done overnight at the hotel.
Weaknesses: The volume was a bit low for the car with the air conditioning going. The speakers are small obviously. I will have to purchase ear phones in the near future.
Summary: I did the research and found this to be the best bet for my money, especially with the rebate for the air/auto adapter and carrying case. I would recommend this product again.

Strengths: Small case, lightweight, highly adjustable screen, all necessary controls on top of unit, solid feeling case
Weaknesses: Remote would be used more if it were smaller
Summary: 2004-12-01 14:08:59 I bought a cheaper model and returned it because it was locking up and the unit was much larger than the screen. The low price made me try that unit.
I then went and purchased the Panasonic LS50. It was exactly what I was looking for. It is small, thin and quality built. I am tickled with it and highly recommend it. It costs a little more, but its worth it to get a quality unit that is first class.
I have never had any problem with any Panasonic unit I have owned.

Strengths: Adjustable LCD screen, Compatible with DVD-Audio, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, video and audio CDs, MP3, WMA, and CD-R/-RW discs
Weaknesses: not find yet
Summary: I just get the Panasonic portable DVD player for myself. It works great, very clear picture and sound. It plays DVD, DVD-R, MP3, DVD Ram, JPEG, CD-R/RW. The great thing is to view photos in CR-R/CD-RWs, as well as listen to MP3. You can even adjust the 7" LCD screen allows for multiple viewing angles from general straight up viewing, to enhanced angle viewing, to compact flat viewing. This is the MUST BUY portable DVD player!

Strengths: Great picture, compact size, ease of use, tilting screen.
Weaknesses: Haven't found any yet. Might be able to make the remote smaller?
Summary: This is my first portable DVD player so I have nothing to compare this purchase to. However, I have been very pleased with the quality of the picture from this 7" display. The tilt action of the screen is convenient and adds a different viewing dimension. I've found that some angles of the screen are crisper and sharper as you adjust the screen angle. The tilt enhances the ability to fine-tune the angle which is nice. Runs quietly and has good sound.
