Strengths: Price and value, 6ms response, 6000:1 dynamic contrast, video quality even in SD, smart stretch feature, 2xHDMI input, Compact size
Weaknesses: None so far. I would have preferred the black bezel to have more of a matt finish than the shiny glossy one, but for the price performace I can live with it.
Summary: I have been looking for and evaluating LCD TV's for quite a while and had been looking to replace all my three tube TV's. I was in the market for 1 37 inch , 1 32 in and 1 26 in LCD. I bought a couple of 32 in second tier brands sold by Costco - Vizio and then Sceptre but was never very happy with them even after I got HD Dish. The SD channels (which is most of them) simply were not very good at all. Fortunately with Costco's return policy I was able to return them. My research lead me to the the three S's - Sharp, Sony and Samsung. The Sharp (32D42U) and Samsung (3292, 3296 or 3241) models I looked at both had 2 HDMI inputs which I was looking for - one for Dish and the other for an upconverting DVD player. The Sony 32S2010 and the XBR1/2 only had one. From a video quality standpoint they all seemed excellent. The Samsung 3296 was probably the best of the lot but also $500 more expensive than this Sharp. My wife liked the esthetics of the Sony and Samsungs, but for being at least $200 cheaper than any of the other models and as much $500 cheaper than some of the other models I looked at, this Sharp was a no brainer particularly since it had a faster repsonse time of 6 ms. I struggled with whether I should buy the 32D42U or the 32D43U. I spoke to Sharp and they told me that they were identical other than the casing. The silver on the 43U was shinier and than the 42U. I preferred the less shiny model so I saved a few dollars and settled for the 42U. My decision was made even easier as I had also bought the 37 in Sharp (C3742U) from Costco which is the big brother to this 32D42U and is equivalent to the 37D42U and was very pleased with it as it as well. So I knew what I was getting into. Another plus of buying the 32 in Sharp was that since I already had the 37 in, it enabled others at home to essentially get used to just one interface.

Strengths: Ease of setup. Picture quality. More input connections than most will ever need. A great looker as well.
Weaknesses: Nothing of consequence. Speakers could have richer quality, but I have quality external speakers that compensate. Remote could be a little more user friendly.
Summary: This set can be configured, formatted, and adjusted as to picture, color, screen size, audio in an infinite number of ways.

The resolution for dvd input is so clear it appears to be in 3-D.

Since it is new, I'm still learning to use all the intelligent features built into the set.

For those interested, it will also double as a glorified PC monitor.

Strengths: Sharp with good contrast
Weaknesses: Haven't discovered any
Summary: While investigating LCDs for our big room (looking for a 52") I narrowed it down to the 3 "S": Sony, Samsung and Sharp. While the styling was beautiful on all three models, the Sharp had a very attractive price for what it could do.

I decided that since the sharpness and blacks were so impressive on the large Sharp screen, I decided to look into a 32" Sharp for our bedroom and I wasn't disappointed.

At first, the 32" Aquos was hook directly into our existing cable, which was analog because we hadn't yet ordered HD from our cable company. I was pretty impressed at that point but I knew the best was yet to come. We just got our digital service today and wow! TV viewing will never be the same again.

The price was great. The design is great. Opinions for hooking it up to a home theater system makes it even greater. The picture is perfect.

Some advice: Think about getting decent cables. Don't go overboard, but don't skimp either.

Strengths: Built-in digital tuner. Awesome picure, best in the market, but Samsung's catching up. Great looks and two HDMI connectors.
Weaknesses: Not too many 1081p sources other than blu-ray. Great deal for around $1,000. Speakers kind of thin but adequate. Use Home Theater for real sound.
Summary: Sharp has one of the best LCD pictures out there. This is a good sized TV with the advantage of the built-in digital tuner.

Picture is great with quick refresh. LCD's starting to catch up with CRT's.

Getting more HDMI's on the newer TV's so I can connect my PS3 and Sony DVD jukebox.

Like the sleek black look and the speakers on the bottom. Makes it easier to fit in entertainment center.

Strengths: 6000:1 Dynamic contrast ratio(designed for bright rooms and also looks great in dark rooms which is where i have mine), 2 HDMI inputs, very stylish design, different stretch modes for diff. hd modes.
Weaknesses: A remote that is the size of a Buick, no picture in picture, touted as perfect for gamers yet im having lag problems on guitar hero.
Summary: The lag problems are not an issue if you have a ps3 or xbox 360 system, but if have games you like to play that ARE timing based yet ARENT available for these systems, i.e. Guitar hero games, etc. and have a ps2 or xbox you will have an issue. To Sharps credit, I havent fully checked all(most-there are so many) of the options on the tv, but i have changed my ps2 to 16:9 mode. On guitar hero 2 you can adjust lag on the video options but its still weird gameplay because the timing is so fast in that game. I have yet to try component cables on my ps2-that is my next option. Overall I am very satisfied with this TV. I paid $786 for it brand new with free shipping through buydig.com. I have done extensive research for the past 3-4 months on which was the best lcd at this screen size before buying. I narrowed it down to samsung being the best(consumer reports did as well) and sharp being a very close second. When you compare the pricing-samsung is about $1100-$1400 and the sharp is around $780-$1200 it was a no brainer for me. For the $786 that i paid you cannot find a better deal out there right now. The picture is fantastic, very vivid, bright and detailed. I would recommend this tv to anyone for the quality combined with the price i paid for it. I give this a 4 1/2 star rating, and im very picky.

Strengths: True to life picture quality, Sleek piano black front panel, Great ergonomics, Low online price
Weaknesses: Slight degradation in picture and sound quality from its older model, LC-40C32U. The new 6000:1 dynamic contrast created awkward flares
Summary: I started with the bargain price VISIO, upgraded to the sharp LC-40C32U, and finally the LC-32D42U. The most important feature I found is picture quality in a dark room. With the lights dimmed, details in the dark area of the picture are loss with the VISIO. It is obvious with movies like Lord of the Rings. The Sharp 40C32U was amazing. Every detail shows up, making the picture very life like. The sharp's ergonomics were dramatically improved over the VISIO. Connectors are on the side, easy to work with. Built in cable ties and strain relief routes cable to the center of the TV. Menu system was windows like. Remote lights up and has different button shapes so you can use it in the dark. Sound quality is superb. Finally I saw the improved exterior of this 32D42U. The black front is sleek, less distracting compared to the big silver speakers on the 40C32U. The sleek packaging did sacrafice some deep bass sound. The subwoofer like holes in the speakers were gone. The advertised 6000:1 dynamic contrast negatively impacted picture quality. People's faces glows and dims as they move in and out of the spot light, such as in news reports. Luckly I found the "USER" mode turns off this feature.

Over all the 32D42U was the best, especially at $865 shipped from buydig.com. This sale comes and goes in 2 day durations. Free shipping only took 5 days to reach California from New Jersey. Not bad at all.

Strengths: Price. Sharpness. Sleakness.
Weaknesses: Missing some nuts for the stand. Had to go out be buy my own. Direct TV remote doesn't turn the LCD on/off.
Summary: Well worth the money. No regrets. Amazing color and brightness. I shopped around and saw the LCD's in person. Not too far off from the Samsung and Sony LCD's.

Strengths: Great HD picture Good contrast Nice Price QAM Tuner Pretty good SD picture
Weaknesses: Slightly washed out off-angle viewing Speakers/Built-in amplifier aren't quite loud enough
Summary: I like this TV a lot. It is made in Sharp's own kameyama plant so you don't have to worry about it being outsourced to China or Thailand. The HD picture is excellent and the SDTV picture is pretty good, I think as good as can be expected. DVDs look fabulous as well.

Contrast and color saturation make the picture really vibrant. There's also a QAM tuner. As with most LCDs (except maybe Samsung and Sony), the picture slightly washes out when viewed off-angle. As long as you're not too far off-angle, it still looks great though. Also, some channels don't broadcast a loud enough audio signal so you can notice the slight weakness of the built-in amplifier when watching these ones. Nonetheless, it's loud enough.

Strengths: Picture quailty is awesome! Easy to set up.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: It's very clear! We really enjoy this TV. We recommend it to anyone.

Only one thing-- For some reason the sound is off a second for our other Aquos. So if you have them on at the same time. It sounds like there's an echo in the house.

Would purchase again!

Strengths: Excellent picture & color quality. Built in ATCS (digital) tuner for getting HDTV Over the Air; Two HDMI inputs plus VGA input for PC. Modern and sleek looking.
Weaknesses: No clock. Speaker is OK.
Summary: 2007-03-01 13:15:19 I want to upgrade our bedroom TV and was very tempted to buy the ViewSonic N3260W for around $549 after rebate. But after reading the review from PCMAG.com for the LC-32D40U (PCMAG Editor's Choice) which is similar to this model, I decided to spend a little bit more and get the Sharp AQUOS instead. The picture quality is sharp and color is vibriant. I believed you can get spent a little bit less but when you compared side by side a budget LCD to a well known brand like Sharp, Sony, Toshiba, or Panasonic, you can definitely tell that the color is a bit washed out on those budget LCDs.

I'm very happy with my purchase; worth the price.
