Strengths: Fast, Excellent speed, no coasters
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I have been buying only NEC DVD burners for the past 5 years. I have not been dissappointed yet. Some of the NEC burners I was able to update the firmware and get extra features for free. NEC is definitely the best valued burners on the market in my opinion... including this one.

Strengths: Great price, fast 18x DVD write speed, easy to install, no software needed.
Weaknesses: CD writer could be faster (but not by much).
Summary: This drive has performed excellently on multiple DVD and CD writes. Data DVDs are written in less than 10 minutes and CDs in less than 5. The price is fair and the product is reliable. What more can one want? The only thing that could make this product better would be to bundle it with a dvd creating program such as Nero Vision but as for the drive itself, I have no complaints.

Strengths: Works great, fast and gets the job done.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: I am very happy with this new Nec dvd burner. It was very easy to install and works very well. I have been using it to burn as well as view dvds. I would recommend it. Its also hard to beat the price.

Strengths: Speed. NEC reliability. Quality of DVD burns. DL burning capability. DVD RAM support.
Weaknesses: Lack of bitsetting capability in some flavors of DVDs. Lack of Mt. Ranier support.
Summary: This is a great burner -- fast and reliable. It is one of the first products from the NEC/Sony/Optiarc lash-up, and it reflects favorably on its parents. I have not produced any coasters yet with it, although I have been only feeding it high-grade media. Still, it is great burner. Recommended.

Strengths: Fast. Reliable. Cheap price.
Weaknesses: Occassional minor noise when active
Summary: Will definitely recommend this product. I have been using this for a while now, and is now buying a second one as a gift for my friend's birthday. Great reliable product at a reasonalbe price. Great value!

Strengths: quick, easy to use, no coaster.
Weaknesses: loud during operation.
Summary: this is agreat dvd burner, definitely worthwhile for #30. i purchased mine from newegg.com. i have used many nec drives and they last for quite a long time. you will not regret it.

Strengths: It is fast, quite, and just works well.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Works great, i have backed up my entire photo collection (around 60 Gigs in a few hours. The Drive is an OEM so no software was included, however i had NERO already installed and it has worked perfect.

Summary: Latest release from NEC is very good. Works fine and does what it is supposed to do. NEC is the original maker of DVD bruners so they are the best.

 AD-7170A DVD Writer Strengths: LOW Price
Weaknesses: Can NOT BURN any cds or DVDs (LOTS of Coaster made)
Summary: I have tried both roxio and Nero software to burn cds and dvds, and both were NOT successful. Windows XP indicated the
drive as "working properly". Looking on the internet I found out I was NOT the ONLY one that had problems burning dvds and cds with this drive. I caution people who would think about buying this drive, check on the internet about reviews from people who actually used this drive.
