Strengths: Using the Prologic IIx is an enhancement for 6.1 with 5.1 material. Enough power to drive most any surround sound system with power to spare. Very low bleed over with it's discrete amps.
Weaknesses: None for the Midrange Receiver at this price
Summary: I think Kenwood has hit on a winner in this price catagory and in this level of receiver. A step beyond the popular VR-707 and the new Prologix IIx is worth the step up. Standard features but compelling enough for the 6.1 customers and flexible enough to compete with any receiver in this price point. Overall a Winner!

Strengths: DTS(ES), Dolby Digital EX, Great setup options
Weaknesses: 100W of Power?, Single optical input
Summary: The simulated 6.1 modes are amazing! It really makes movies come alive. I've got it connected up to JBL speakers and have been really impressed, especially for the price. When setting up, the receiver has some impressive functions, i.e. speaker distance, etc. I wish it had two optical inputs. I can't get digital sound from my PlayStation and TiVo, they both use optical. At full power, it doesn't seem like it's as loud as it should be. Maybe I'm just hard of hearing. I haven't noticed much distortion at higher power levels though, sound stays clean.

Strengths: very good sound quality. Easy to set up with most audio and video equipment.
Weaknesses: cannot use with a turntable
Summary: For the price the Kenwood Home Theater receiver is an excellent value. It has great sound quality and the ability to add 7 speakers. It has all the necessary outlets to connect most audio and video equipment.
