Strengths: Plenty of power - Compact Design - Sleek Look - Easy to Operate
Weaknesses: Poor instruction manual - Enormous Remote - No video up-conversion - Takes a second to recognize a signal
Summary: I love this Receiver! It has plenty of connectivity options and offers customization. All inputs can be changed to outputs and vice versa. It also allows custom labeling of each input, which is pretty handy. This unit also just looks great. It looks like a $10,000 piece of equipment.

My major gripe is that it doesn't upconvert video signals, I think that was a major oversight in designing this unit. Many receiver that are far less expensive than this one offer video upconversion, which is a pretty nice feature.

Strengths: design. functionality. light compared to other receivers
Weaknesses: manual -- not enough details
Summary: 2005-08-12 22:06:28 Best receiver I ever bought.

I replaced my Denon avr1804 with this one and I am very impressed at the sound quality. This sound is much more clear, more definitive.

The design is also a very positive feature..

I don't like the HK remotes. It looks cheap...

Strengths: It has nice sound, good design and provide a lot of functionalities.
Weaknesses: The remote is atrocious and the manual is inadequate. It also has no up conversion.
Summary: I replaced my last receiver Panasonic SA-HE100 with this Harman Kardon DPR2005. I have tried this receiver and I can say the difference is day and night. The sound is much crispier. I can say it worth every penny I spent, especially since I got it on sale. The retail price $1800 is over inflated; you can get it around $700 when on sale.

Since the remote control is badly designed, I am replacing it with a Logitech remote control. The manual is ok for me, but may not for novice users. If you got a HDTV, you might want to buy another receiver with up conversion.

Harman Kardon DPR2005 is overall a nice upper-midrange receiver.

Strengths: 1. Design 2. Lightweight 3. Sound
Weaknesses: 1. Remote 2. Manual
Summary: I bought this receiver at $500. Great receiver for this price. The thing I hate about this receiver is the ugly remote. It is not ergonomic and not designed very well.

As for the manual, it needs a lot more detail. It is skimpy on the details..

Overall, I can live without the remote and the manual. It is the best sound I have listen to..

1 Star ReviewDo not buy it, product died in very first day
Strengths: Compact design, looks beautiful
Weaknesses: Highly unreliable
Summary: Received the receiver, and it was easy to setup. Unfortunately the product died after working for 4 hours. It powers off by its own immediately after switching on. Did a reset of the unit as per the manual. HK Tech support says, it could be because of a shortage of connection. Removed all the connections, reset the unit. It still switches off by its own with out any connections. This unit has some serious problems. That is why the heavy discount in price. Dont waste your money.
