*I’m using a Pioneer DEH-9600MP. This tuner does ...
Strengths: Simple to install. Plan your install before you begin… It took me 30 min, that includes taking apart most of the dashboard of a ’98 Buick Century.
Weaknesses: See Comments:
*Unit does not support direct channel entry.
*Problems powering up the unit.
Summary: 2004-12-14 11:03:56 *I’m using a Pioneer DEH-9600MP. This tuner does not support the direct channel option on the pioneer unit (meaning: you can’t type the channel number using the remote). They (TERK Technologies) have no plans to upgrade at this time -11/29/04.
*This might be a problem with the electrical system in my BUICK… in order to get the unit to work I have to put the ignition to the on position for a second, then start the car. If I don’t the radio acts like the tuner isn’t there.
(-- I have wired it up with the +&- of the head unit--)
Besides those “minor glitches” this is a great buy for under $100.

Strengths: Simple install, very easy to connect
Weaknesses: A little on the large side and the splicing may confuse some...
Summary: The first comment probably had that problem because he/she did not connect the external power to the tuner. That is why it reset every time. This is why splicing the power to the tuner is necessary. I found that splicing the power cable to my Pioneer head unit was the easiest to power my tuner.
Peace out kids

Strengths: Installation was painless!
Weaknesses: NADA!
Summary: 2004-10-10 20:02:36 I am using this unit along with the Pioneer 7500MP Head unit and a Terk XM XMDPIO100 XMDirect Pioneer Smart Digital Adapter. After reading the review stating that the equalizer settings were reset when this unit was used with a Sony unit, I was a little apprehensive using this unit. Instead in picked it up at Best Buy for a similar price along with the smart adapter.
To my happy surprise this unit does not reset any equalizer settings and performs flawlessly. Instead of mounting the antenna externally (as inidcated by the manufacture) I mounted it in the dash and have had stellar results!
Probably the greatest part was that everything fit behind the dash in my Honda Civic 2002.
This unit was extremely easy to install. The only splicing would be to power the two units (one to power the two) with a 12V lead.

This tuner is very easy to install. No external p ...
Strengths: Not having a separate unit to listen to XM. Connected to Sony CDX-F7700 head unit.
Weaknesses: Tone settings resets to default every single time radio is turned off, but only for the XM settings, not the CD or tuner.
Summary: This tuner is very easy to install. No external power required to power the unit. It gets it power through the data bus cable.
One thing I don't like is that the tone settings returns to factory default when the unit is power cycled or switching from CD or tuner to XM. It got very annoying quickly.
At least I got some space back by replacing my Skyfi with this

Strengths: Everything controlled through your stereo, its compact and mounted out of site, sound quality, cost, ease of use, well constructed and its easily installed
Weaknesses: None that I could find!
Summary: What a great unit! For those that do not know satellite radio; this is the best thing since home-made soap and CDs. The clarity is equal to or better than CD or DVD, variety of music stations, talk radio, sports, news or just about any type of listening you like. Its not all on the same station like regular radio. Pure music stations at your finger tips. Each type of music has its own channel 24 hours a day. No radio stations that signs off at midnight, Sunday morning gospel only or DJs that just like hearing their voice or plain stalling. Think of it as plugging in a CD and knowing you are going to listen to it without being interrupted by the weather reports and commercial. Now lets talk about the unit its self. This is not a stand a lone unit, meaning it has to have car radio that is XM ready to play it through. All the controls are through your stereo system. This is unlike the portable units you can carry between your house and car that uses an empty radio station to broadcast to. This will get you much better sound quality from the car stereo or sometimes called a Head Unit that has a separate channel built in for this purpose. Just like your television monitors having channels for your DVD player that do not interfere with the TV tuner. Many after market stereos and even some OEM radios have the connections and controls built in - just look for the XM badge on the stereo your planning to use. The after market head units are readily available by all the manufactures these days and the price difference between XM Ready and not are minimal. Note that in most cases you will need to purchase an adapter to match the stereo you have. Again, its easy to find. Your local Wal Mart or Radio Shack carries them if you need it today. Mine is Sony which happen to the most expensive at around $40 The actual connection to your stereo system is as simple as plugging in 3 wires, 2 of those are RCA plugs just like your home stereo uses and the 3rd looks like S-Video depending on your head unit. There are no separate power or ground wires to deal with at all. But, if you are afraid of the process of taking your stereo out of your dash then maybe having it installed professionally might be better for you. I think the hardest part was finding a place to mount the unit out of site and close enough to your stereo due to the short cables supplied. The final connection is the antenna from the Terk unit to an outside location. The small diameter wire makes it easy to slip under your interior trim for that clean appearance and preventing the wires from being accidentally pulled and disconnected. The instructions provide suggests for the antenna mounting locations. This antenna is extremely small, discrete and is magnetically mounted. I have 3 cars that have the antennas on for 2 years each and none have ever moved on their own or required moved around due to reception problems. I have all mine mounted above the door and close to the windshield, this only leaves 1 - 1.5 inches of wire showing. Having this unit has given me a lot of pleasure and gives me a peace of mind not having to worry about my old portable unit being stolen from the car, misplacing or damage it from the constant connecting and disconnecting or dropping the unit in transit. This mounts out of site and always ready to go. For me it makes perfect sense to put one in each auto and leave the portable unit for the home stereo.

Strengths: Easy installation and painless set up
Weaknesses: a liitle too big for smaller cars and you need to spend extra on adapters and fancy displays.
Summary: The best about the unit is that there is no power cord needed and it go directly to your car stereo. Great music quality and throusands of choices with no commercials. Of course the adapter is quite expensive. But think about what you get, it is worth the money you spend.

Terk XM XMD1000 XMDirect Satellite Radio Receiver
Strengths: Easy installation, took less than an hour
Weaknesses: a litte bit large
Summary: Easily installed by myself, it fits just under my radio in my dashboard. No wires to run under a seat. No external power required to run the unit. The small patch type antena works very well. The sound quality of the satellite is much better than traditional radio and you dont have to listen to commercials.

Strengths: Installation is a piece of cake, compact unit, good quantity.
Weaknesses: Sometimes the singal is not good if there are high buildings around.
Summary: Satellite radio is really a good idea, and it beats the traditional radio a lot for the sound performance. Well, this is just like a comparison between HDTV and normal TV. There are a lot of stations to choose, and there must be some stations of your favorite.
This receiver is cheaper compared with other brand receivers. Considering of the price and performance, this is a good stuff to buy.

Good idea and sound, but pricy compared to other options.
Strengths: Good build quality
good reception
Weaknesses: Must buy pricy adapter
larger than xm with displays
Summary: This product is good in principal. With this unit you can take your xm ready head unit and add XM radio to it. While this unit can be hidden from view since you are using the display of your existing radio, it is fairly large (about 2x the size of an xm radio with screen. The direct connection to your radio provides for very good sound quality and the antenna, while a little larger than the ones shipping with xm radios with displays, it is still rather small and of good quality. My only gripe is that you must buy an adapter to connect this receiver to your head-unit. The connector typically costs as much as the receiver. With rebates and coupons it can easily be cheaper to buy an xm receiver with display and all the items you need to listen to radio for less than this will cost you. The Terk receiver is good to minimize clutter and the amount of devices on your dash, but you pay for it.

Strengths: Easy Install- Simple Connections
Weaknesses: Routing the wire for the antenna is a pain- but maybe that's just me, since I have to have things PERFECT on my car.
Summary: This unit does what it says. Someone with minimal car stereo installation experience should have no trouble installing this.
As mentioned above, routing the antenna wire so I could mount the antenna where I wanted was a pain- but I'm picky.
Reception seems fine- but I don't live near any big obstructions.

Strengths: Super rich program choice, good sound quality
Weaknesses: Sometimes signal is bad in downtown area
Summary: This unit worths every penny I spent. The super rich channel choice is amazing. The sound quality is as good as FM, so if you expect some hi-fi effect you are looking at a wrong item. You do need to subscribe to their service but it worths it IMHO. The saterlite signal is not always good. It has some problem in downtown area but not a big deal anyway.

Terk XMD1000 XMDirect Universal Tuner
Strengths: Compact in size, ergonomically designed for car stereos.
Weaknesses: A Smart Digital Adapter is required for its function which adds extra expense. Car stereos must be XM ready.
Summary: This unit is an accessory, not a XM radio. Other hardware needs to be used in conjunction for its function. Its role can be simply put as a device connecting between the car stereos and the XM receiver. It works generally.

XM XMD1000 XMDirect Satellite Radio Receiver for aftermarket sterios
Strengths: small compact unit
Weaknesses: did not see any so far
Summary: tuning works good; the signals reception and clarity is excellent. But I used the unit for a short time only and not sure of continuously paying for information that is available free of charge through other stations (if not as digital) or could be bought selectively as CDs or downloads. It looks like business folks are trying to tie the consumer on monthly charges or annual renewal fees. Good for the business, but what about the consumer whose salaries are not going up!

Strengths: Setup this radio quickly
Weaknesses: A little large
Summary: After I received this Satellite Radio Receiver, I just spent 30 minutes to install it. It's painless. I tested the sound and felt XM radio is very clear. And the best is no commercial advertisement again. I feel it's worth for this cheap price.
