Inexpensive notebook
Strengths: Nice screen, simple and clean design. Able to play CD/DVD media without booting into Windows. Speed is reasonable for the cost.
Weaknesses: Windows XP Home instead of MCE, no Firewire, no remote, no media card reader. Expansion card is old CardBus PCMCIA.
Summary: Reasonably well designed computer for the price. It's not a real media-center machine since it comes with XP Home instead of MCE, and has no remote control or media card slots. The Celeron M 420 was surprisingly speedy (it's Yonah-based, at least). The included 512MB memory is supplied on a single SODIMM. There is no easy access to the built-in wireless (Atheros-based) or the CPU. Oddly enough, there are USB ports on the right hand side and on the back, but none on the left. As a nice touch, there is an old-fashioned volume dial controlling the sound volume from speaker or headphones. Not so nice is the latch mechanism for the screen - it looks flimsier than any that I've come across, and will probably break sooner rather than later.
