2 Star ReviewGREAT LAPTOP FOR THE MONEY BUT!!!
Strengths: SMOOTH POWER FROM THE INTEL T5600 1.83GHZ!! I HAD THE DV8000T WITH THE T2400 DUO CORE 1.83GH NOT AS GOOD, AND IT FELL APART AND WAS SENT BACK!
Weaknesses: ALL THE JUNK SOFTWARE HP LOADS! HP SAYS IN A STATEMENT IN A MAG, THEY MAKE MONEY OFF LOAD VONGO AND WILD T GAMES PLUS THE OTHERS, SO THE LAPTOP ARE CHEAPER
Summary: I GOT THIS DV9000T INTEL DUO CORE2 PROCESSOR 1.83GHZ 1GB RAM,100GB HD,FREE LIGHTSCRIBE DVD, AND THE WINDOWS XP PRO MEDIA CENTER EDITION. BE SURE YOU ORDER THE SYSTEM RECOVERY DVDS W/WINDOWS XP MEDIA CENTER. HP PUTS A DEDICATED RECOVERY PARTITION ON THE HARD DRIVE THATS 15+ gb ON THE 92GB NOT 100GB HARD DRIVE! MINE WAS SO FRAGMENTED ON THE PARTITION {complete RED] YOU COULDNT DEFRAG, BECAUSE IT REQ 15% SPACE, I HAD ONLY 11%. I DELETED THE PARTITION. MY MEDIA QUICKPLAY BUTTONS WILL NOT STARTUP WITHOUT BOOTING UP WINDOWS! I CALLED HP SUPPORT THE 1ST DAY I GOT IT FROM HPS HOME OFFICE AFTER AN HOUR WITH THE TECH GUY,HE SAID I HAVE A VIRUS, NO WAY! ANYWAY IVE HAD IT FOR LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AND IF THE QUICKPLAY BUTTONS WORKED ID BE HAPPY NOW! BTW:THE SYSTEM HOG IS THE SOFTWARE THAT THE GET PAID TO LOAD, DONT JUST DELETE VONGO WITHOUT READING HOW ON C-NET. MY 1GB RAM HAD ONLY 470MB OF MEMORY LEFT OUT OF THE 1024MB. AFTER DELETEING THERE JUNK WITH THE CORRECT TOYS{SOFTWARE} ITS RUNS GREAT! I JUST BOUGHT TREND MICRO 2007 SECURITY SUITE ON SALE AT BESTBUY $19.99 AFTER LOADING AND RUNNING ITS HOGS MORE MEMORY AND CPU THAN ANY SECURITY SUITE! DONT BUY! ID GIVE THIS HP LAPTOP A SCORE OF 9 WITHOUT THE PROBLEMS JUNK WARE! BTW:I SAW WHERE HP WILL REMOVE VONGO FOR $19.99 IF YOU SHIP IT BACK AND PAY SHIPPING BOTH WAYS! HP TECH SUPPORT IS A SOLID 2 RATING, WORST TECH SUPPORT THERE IS! GORGEOUS LAPTOP IF YOU KEEP IT CLEAN{FINGERPRINTS...] my 2 cents

1 Star ReviewHP usless support
Strengths: fast with lots of hard drive space
Weaknesses: S-video does not work
Summary: I just purchased a DV9040US. Everything works fine except when you want to use the S-video output for your television. It puts out a picture that is black and white horizontal lines. A friend brought over his HP laptop, which is a few months older and has a different display adapter. His works great. I tried HP support where you do a live chat with a tech. He told me to uninstall the display adapter, reboot (which reinstalls it) and update the driver to the latest driver. The uninstall/reboot/reinstall resulted in a clear picture on the TV but at a resolution that had the wrong aspect ratio resulting in a picture where people looked FAT. Updating the driver fixed the aspect ratio problem but also recreated the garbage on the TV problem. Next I called HP tech support on the phone. After trying to help me for a half hour he said that the problem was only when I hooked it to a TV so if I wanted any more support it would have to pay for it. I asked to speak to his supervisor and was put on hold for over an hour and then the phone went dead. He solved his problem by getting rid of me. Keep in mind that my friend was able to use his HP laptop on my TV with my s-video cable, we unplug it from his and plug it into mine and get garbage. In my opinion there is a problem with the display adapter driver. The display adapter is a Nvidia GeForce 7600 graphics card. My friend’s is a Nvidia GeForce 7400. Nvidia offers no end user support. Their web site directs you to the computer manufacturer or the retailer. In my opinion HP support is useless, so tomorrow I will be off to CompUSA to see what can be done. This is a media center PC and I would like to use the TIVO like software to record TV programs to watch on my TV. This has turned into a $1700 mistake. I am just thankful that I didn’t buy it on the internet. Because it is only 2 days old and will not do what it is advertised as being able to do, I am sure that CompUSA will take it back. If you are about to order this product, think about it a while.
