Strengths: Ease of use. 250 GB hard disk. Good price. Excellent customer service. Preloaded softwares
Weaknesses: Dull Color and Design. No graphics card. Just 300W power supply
Summary: I bought this PC from CompUSA during Thanks Giving sale. It cost me $649 after rebates along with a nice 15" LCD monitor. No need to comment about the Athlon 64 X2 4200+ processor. It just rocks. The PC comes with a nice multimedia keyboard with very useful features like sleep, volume control, internet controls etc. The mouse is not optical. But it is smooth. I wanted to buy a good PC for gaming and support heavy development programs like oracle, websphere etc. This PC works smoothly for multitasking. But for gaming..it is NOT ready to use pc. The inbuilt graphics is just not good enough. I upgraded it to 7600GT 256 mb graphics card and 400W power supply. It cost me extra $140.

After that i have no complaints about the gaming experience. I got 58 FPS while playing Halo. The components are well organized inside the large case. Lot of breathing space is available. The memory cards reader is also a cool feature.

The PC was preloaded with Windows XP, Norton Anti virus, Norton Internet security and many more utility softwares. I love the lightscribe dvd writer.

To conclude: Don't buy a $1000 + pc. Buy this and spend additional $140 if you want great gaming. You can easily save $250. HP does an excellent support. If you just ignore the style (quite dull color), this PC is too good to ignore.

2 Star ReviewHP Pavilion Desktop
Strengths: Appears to be excellent value for the money
Weaknesses: No documentation, No useful support
Summary: After buying this desktop and opening the outer box, I noted that there was no (nil, zero, zip) useful documentation for the machine, for the operating system, or for the software included. I emailed HP tech support (a long, drawn-out process, since they can't read English well enough to answer the questions that were asked) & they said everything was on the disk. Having explored HP machines in the store for several hours, I knew that this was a bald-faced lie. There was no manual for the motherboard, graphics, sound, or drives on the disk.

Nevertheless, I decided that I could work things out and took the CPU out of the box, only to find that there was a rattle inside the case. Sounded like a screw or other piece of metal, but could have been a loose cable. Back to the email, where, after several back and forth messages, they told me to go to a web site where I could see how to open the case and fix the problem (!). Apparently HP is not concerned about the lack of quality control that allows a system to be shipped with loose internal components.

At this point I decided that I did not want to do business with a company that used tech support that did not understand English, that was not concerned about poor quality control, and that felt it was OK to deliver merchandise with loose objects rattling inside!

It goes back for a refund today!!!!!!!

1 Star ReviewWow. Just wow.
Strengths: Price? I guess.
Weaknesses: Read Comments.
Summary: 2007-09-05 21:53:31 (negative) Windows XP Media is included, and that is not a 64-bit operating system. On a positive note, you may upgrade to Vista (not sure how that works).

(negative) While using Windows XP Media, its core speed was about 1 GHz (tested using a program called CPU-z). It states 2.2 GHz, and it wasn't running at that.

It didn't run well for games like Counter-Strike: Source.

The system is 64-bit, yet none of the drivers work for a 64-bit system (h10025.www1.hp.com/ewf... - check Operating Systems).

You'll have to buy a 64-bit operating system, too. It's not free!

I don't recommend this product. If you buy this product, good luck.
