Strengths: Great Features for the price, Amazing Picture Quality, Outstanding Setup Flexibility, 2000 ANSI lumens and Light Harmonizer, 1280x720 Native Res, Impressive 6000:1 Contrast Ratio. Quiet.
Weaknesses: Only 1 HDMI Input. Seems to run hot but dosen't suprize me there's alot going on inside that box.
Summary: 2007-06-18 23:50:20 I must say I was amazed at how well this projector works in ambient light, I can clearly watch anything on it in the middle of the day with blinds open on my 120" screen no problem the light Harmonizer real does it's job well! There was no need to calibrate color or anything out of the box, It was also super easy to setup. Projection on screens ranging in size from 40" to 200" Compare that to a HD lcd. 2x Optical Zoom Lens, providing throw range of 12.1 ft - 24.3 ft for 120" diagonal screen. On-Screen Input Guidance is nice for the kids they know what input to use for what device. The OSD onscreen display is easy to use and loaded with options and settings! The 1080I output works amazingly well using an OPPO DV-981HD Digital DVD player Hands down it's an amazing combo for a truly awesome Home movie experience. For under $2,000.00 nothing even comes close to this combo!

I would highly recommend this projector to anybody looking for 720P native HD projector I would highly recommend it solely based on price and performance vs a standard HD LCD or plasma.

Update: Panasonic Rebate has been received! :)

Strengths: 720p native, Deep blacks with 6000:1 contrast ratio. quite quiet, Features equal price, Excellent picture, Only minutes to setup, bright even with ambient light at 2000 lumens, last $400 rebate
Weaknesses: warranties are minimal
Summary: First ever projector purchase. I was looking for awhile at both the AE900U and the AE1000U and thought this AX100U was a more than happy medium. Brightness of this projector is above most. Light Harmonizer also easy shifting from a dark to lit room and vis versa.

My setup is as follows:

projector is about 18.5ft from my 106in fixed screen and mounted at about 7 feet all well within the projector limits.

This is made possible due to the vast vertical and horizontal adjustment.

Honestly, I'm a first timer and even though I may not know all the ins and outs on home theater setup, but I can say this the addition of this projector to my existing setup has greatly improved my overall TV, movie and computing experience. Plus you can go wrong with a $400 cash rebate!

Strengths: Picture Quality
Weaknesses: Size, Potential Issues
Summary: After reading many reviews and the added bonus of a $400 manufacturer rebate I decided to buy the Panasonic PT-AX100U projector.

Having never owned a projector I cannot comment on its quality in comparison to other projectors in its price range or older versions. In terms of picture quality the PT-AX100U has exceeded my expectations. I have tested it by projecting onto a textured wall with some daylight in the room and could view the movie just fine.

So far I have had no problems, I had imagined it to be slightly smaller in size (4 13/32" x 15 17/32" x 11 25/32") but it has been no great issue. However I am slightly concerned after looking at recent posts in forums that people have been having issues with the Iris, causing flickering and the unit to shut down. I would therefore recommend researching this further before purchasing. I am disappointed to say that I am also still waiting to receive the rebate from Panasonic.

Strengths: Powerhouse - this thing cranks and is so easy to use.
Weaknesses: Only One HDMI cable
Summary: I just purchased this projector and boy am I happy. Street cost is down to about $1650 but there is a $400 rebate with Panasonic so it cost me about $1250. You cant beat that. I did a lot of research and everyone kept on saying that this one was the one to buy. I don't want to spend a bundle on my home theater and I'm doing it all myself so I have to keep costs down but the AX1000U is Top Shelf. I am not a technical wiz with lumens, contrast ratio, etc but I can tell you that on my 100" screen it cranks (I have an elite ezframe fixed grey). I have a panasonic plasma and have been thrilled but this is on another level of enjoyment. I can't wait for Sunday to watch the J-E-T-S!!!

Strengths: Wide range of light output possible. Excellent resolution. Versatile placement options. Easy to setup. HDMI input. Lots of options for customizing picture. Inexpensive compared to the competition.
Weaknesses: Upscaling/de-interlacing not the best.
Summary: The range of light output on the projector is excellent. I have used it with both the lights on and the lights off. With the lights on the image can be made bright to be seen better, but with the lights off the projector really shines. The colors have an almost film-like quality to them. The nice part is the remote allows for easily accessing preset picture/brightness settings, so it is easy to switch between viewing with ambient light and without.

I have this project setup in my apartment about 12 ft. away from the screen (which is about 2 ft. behind the viewing position). This setup still allows me to have an image that is over 110 inches diagonally. There is a large amount of horizontal and vertical lens shift possible also, which let me easily position the image in the center of the screen.

When viewing regular DVDs the image is sometimes blocky because of 1) bad DVD encoding, 2) mediocre up-scaling/de-interlacing, so I would suggest using a good up-scaling DVD player (with HDMI output)

Finally there are a lot of connection options on the back of the DVD player. There is HDMI for hi-def sources. There is also a VGA port, component video, composite video, and s-video inputs. Interestingly there is also a serial port on the back for remotely controlling the projector. The coolest part is that the manual includes details on the communications protocol for controlling the projector!

Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend others to buy this projector.

Strengths: Fantastic adjustment; decent value after rebates; great picture; good hookups
Weaknesses: Not 1080p!; only a 1-year warranty; 90-day warranty on lamp; it's BIG
Summary: This is my very first projector purchase, and so far I'm loving it! I know I could have gone cheap, and certainly alot more expensive, but this was a good middle price-point (particularly after the February 2007 rebates). I wish it was 1080p for upwards compatibility (I currently don't really have any source material in that format), but that gets too darn expensive at this point.

My setup is a 13' x 13' room. The projector is mounted on the ceiling in the back of the room, and the screen is wall mounted on the other end of the room, about 12' feet away. The various adjustment were a breeze to make, and I was up and running real quickly. My room has a large sliding glass window with a shade over it, so a bit of ambient light gets in on the sides. I have no problem with it effecting the picture, even in low-power mode. However, if I leave the blinds completely open on a sunny day, the picture does get a bit washed out.

I got this setup in time for NFL playoffs, and I was quite impressed with the picture. Standard Def DVD movies from my 480p projector looked fantastic!

I only use the HDMI and VGA inputs, and they worked right out of the box. I like the mini remote. Nothing fancy, but I don't really need it to be, as I only toggle betwen hi/lo power, and ocassionally HDMI to VGA.

I would recommend this projector highly!

Strengths: Quiet, Beutiful image, Very Bright, handles ambient light well. Light Harmonizer technology works well to adjust lumen output according to ambient lighting levels.Nice backlit remote is intuitive.
Weaknesses: Only one year warranty. 720p. Needed an extension for my ceiling mount compared to my previous projector to prevent keystone effect.
Summary: The main reason I chose the Panasonic is for the bright output and Light Harmonizer technology. I was skeptical that the Light harmonizer would be as good as I had hoped. I set this up in my basement Theater. There is some ambient light for Sunday football and general family TV viewing. My previous projector washed out some, but this Panny takes it in stride. When the Theatre is dark, it continues to shine. Good color out of the box too.

Strengths: Excellent value if you were lucky enough to purchase the projector before Sept.30/07 and take advantage of the $400 rebate.
Weaknesses: Price just dropped after Sept.30/07 and a new model (200U)came out October 1/07.
Summary: This is my very first experience with a front projector; I have been using an old Sony CRT TV so the picture quality is obviously much better. I was told I wouldn't see a difference between 1080 and 720 so I went with the Panasonic projector. I'm not an expert but the resolution looks good to me.

I have the projector ceiling mounted and it looks really good in a home theater room. I hired someone to set it up and it seemed easy. The manual is a bit cumbersome to go through. It's a bit technical if you don't have much experience with AV equipment.

Overall impressions are good. The remote works well, although I now need to figure out how to teach my receiver remote to accept the projector remote signals.

I would recommend this projector especially since the price is dropping. I read the new projector (200U) has a game mode which the 100U doesn't have.

Strengths: Great picture, great price for what you get
Weaknesses: 1 year warranty with 90-day warranty only on lamp, not 1080p
Summary: 2007-09-17 21:17:48 My old NEC projector died so i bought this as a replacement. It is a bit bulkier than it looks in the photo but nonetheless the size is acceptable. Note that the projection comes from the right side of the projector. I didn't notice this detail until it arrived which meant that I had to move and reinstall my bracket. The picture is AMAZING! It performs well in most ambient light settings. I have it set up in a room which can get quite bright in the daytime and it still projects a nice and clear picture. With the Panasonic rebate it's a solid deal (assuming the slow Panasonic rebate comes).

Update on the rebate: the rebate processing company says it will take 8-12 weeks from the receipt of the rebate to mail a cheque

Strengths: Great picture
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: Great product for the price. Nice remote. Easy to setup.

Fan is much quiter than my older Sharp projector. Lens adjusting knob is great feature to project the image on the screen after installing the projector off center.
