Strengths: Everything except for fingerprints and scroll pad.
Weaknesses: Fingerprints and scroll pad.
Summary: This is a great laptop. I've had it for almost 2 weeks now and continue to love it. The only two weaknesses are that the design of the cover of the laptop has a shiny finish which tends to attract a lot of fingerprints; however, HP has anticipated that and included a cloth (much similar to the cloth that cleans eyeglasses) so that you can clean the cover of your laptop whenever you want. The scroll pad tends to stick; if your hands are a little sweaty, you might have a little trouble controlling the mouse pad. There are a couple of add-ons which I thought were clever. For instance, the scroll pad has an on/off button for when you're typing a long document you don't accidentally place your pointer somewhere you don't want it. Also, you can turn the wireless connection on or off (why? I'm not sure, but it's an add-on that will be useful to someone). Other than those two minor things, this laptop has given me no problems. The speed of the processor is great; I can be running a number of programs and not feel a difference in the speed. It has a remote control for when you want to just watch a DVD on your laptop and not have the actual machine on.

True story of Hp warrranty service
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: I bought a Hp dv2000, in less a month it can't power on, so I call the customer service witch I believe the line transfer to India, after 2 days of discussion, talk to 3 customer guys each time on many calls (appox 30~45 mins), finally I can ship it back to their repair center.
After repair center received my notebook 3 days, they call me ask my permission to re image the hard drive, I gave it and I find out I have some personal data the I don't have back up (the notebook can't power on). after 10 mins I call ask them if this is only way to fix it. I spent 4 days and appox 4~5 on phone ( most of time is waiting and transfer) to talk to customer service, tech guys, case manager, they said they will call you back after they find out the status and they never call back or 2 days late still no answer. they don't transfer you to their repair center.
about 2 weeks finally I got notebook back, there is certificate inside the box telling you their 22 points check up and bla bla bla, the notebook has no sound driver, wrong vga driver (600 by 800 or 1024 by 768 not for 14.1 wide screen), bad wireless lan (red light), question marks on device manager, the best is a screw on the keyboard, and I find out 3 missing screws on the back of the notebook cover.
I really like the new design of HP notebook, some friend have no problem at all, but if you got a lemon like me, you need to spend long time to get your right.

Not bad, but not good either
Strengths: Flashy, comsumer-minded styling. Good mid-line laptop good for e-mail, picture viewing, light office utilities, web-surfing and dvd entertainment. It's feature rich.
Weaknesses: When I installed MS Vista RC2 on this machine it scored a whoppin' 1. For those of you that don't know what that means, in short, advertising this machine as "Vista capable" out-of-the-box is a lie.
Summary: It's too light on RAM. There are no operating system Disks. If you want, you can burn your own recovery disks but they give you NONE. It's not a matter of "IF" your hard drive will fail, it's a matter of when. If your hard drive fails a day after the year warranty and you don't have recovery disks, you're S.O.L. If you upgrade to VISTA, they don't have any supported downloads for Vista at this time. You'll lose all the neat little extras on this machine. Take my advice (my sister didn't when she bought this machine), don't buy DELL, GATEWAY, or HP/COMPAQ. Their consumer-end machines aren't as good as their business grade machines (I don't buy those either)

Well...now this is a disappointment
Strengths: Sleek design, portability (size, weight, built-in peripherals like web-cam and media reader)
Weaknesses: Kind of like playing Russian Roulette, or so it would seem
Summary: I had my eye on this particular unit for a while before I had actually made my purchase, comparing prices with other units of various manufacturers (including Mac) and thought I would be getting more bang for my buck. When the unit when on sale, I grabbed and was quite pleased about...until the next day. I dealt with the fact that it spontaneously aborted the burning of the recovery disks but when it did things like get into perpetual loops with the webcam demo or when downloading software which I had downloaded before onto other notebooks, it was getting on my nerves. It even refused to shut down at one point and at a later time spontaneously went into hibernation while I was working on it. Okay...there was a lot more that it did but I gave up writing about it and simply brought it back to the store for an exchange (no easy feat because the closest store still takes me an hour to get to by public transit). Got a replacemet machine which worked perfectly....for exactly one week before things went all "pear-shaped". The webcam stopped working and when I went into the start menu to begin my investigation, the menu item and display had gone terribly wrong. The system had gotten corrupted and I spent the rest of the day trying to recover. Thankfully I was able to back up my files to a memory stick (I would have burned a DVD but the DVD burner also stopped working for some reason). After I could get things somewhat back to normal I did a complete systems diagnostic check at HP's website only to find coding errors and a few of the systems that were malfunctioning (not from use or abuse, they just came that way). It was a mess and I was terribly disappointed in the whole thing. A lot of time invested in this endeavour for only minimal enjoyment. I haven't even used it as a DVD player. Tomorrow I will once again trek across town and return the unit. I doubt very much that I will replace it with the same model (or one from the same manufacturer).
