Strengths: Specification, low-cost
Weaknesses: Sound
Summary: I had a tough time choosing between this and the Sony BRAVIA KDL40W2000. As a long-standing fan of Sony and an existing owner of the smaller 19" BRAVIA (bedroom) it was a difficult decision but for the price this TV is simply unbeatable. Full HD with 1080p support and an excellent response time of 6ms for around £1000 is a real bargain. In fact, I am a little annoyed that Sony have continue to ignore the significance of Ghost blur and have not improved on the 8ms response achieved some 18 months ago. As a football fan, fast action video must be handled reasonably well for me and, although LCD still needs a year or two to resolve this completely, the Sharp LC37XD1E does a good job. Colour and contrast are very good and the overall look of the TV is excellent. The sound as with many LCD TVs is poor, however. This was easily resolved for me as I had a cracking stereo system with tower speakers. I have now routed the Audio output to the Auxiliary Line input and... awesome!
The other attribute which tipped the scales was screen size. I don't care much for official size-per-viewing-distance figures as apparently, I should have purchased a 42" screen to sit 12 feet away - rubbish! 37" is big enough for corner placement. Manufacturers have to realise that the majority do not have lounge-layouts which lend themselves to wall-mounted TVs.
Anyway, suffice it to say, this TV is excellent value for money. If you can afford to hang on for another year, then do so, but if you plan to buy now, this is the one for you!
