Strengths: Durable Easy to place
Weaknesses: Large
Summary: This loudspeaker is very easy to modify. It takes on the sound characteristics of the room it is in. Although it can be driven by low power amplifiers (30w tube) it should be driven by a higher power amplifier for nicer headroom. It takes some serious power input to kill the low frequency driver, but is easily replaceable through the bottom of the cabinet. Replace with a Klipsch Pro driver if possible. . .it will give the system a little higher power handling.

Rewire and biwire and biamp or triamp is what this loudspeaker can handle with modest improvements to overall sound. You can "EQ" without an equilizer by lowering the power input to a specific driver. A time delay is helpful on the hi and mid frequency drivers to bring them back into time alignment with the low frequency driver. But it will do well without and only small drop in quality without it.

I've used the LaScalas outside and inside with great results.. .for large areas, use two pairs. . . I've driven them with a Kenwood Basic M1A, Yamaha M-45, Yamaha M-85, and a portable radio. Long runs of 100 feet and short runs of 3 feet of speaker cable work well. The 100 foot setup was old phone cable from the poles--20AWG solid if I remember correctly. I like to use bundles of 18AWG multistranded copper: 2 18AWG is equal to 15AWG and 2 15AWG is equal to 12 AWG. Overkill since most circuit traces are much smaller in surface area (skin effect of electricity). Using short runs is the best way.
