I purchased two new Heresy speakers in the summer ...
Strengths: Very nice tight, firm, and accurate bass.
Weaknesses: The midrange and tweeter are horn speakers.
Summary: I purchased two new Heresy speakers in the summer of 1990, mainly based Klipsch's advertizing. Two years later I met a real audiophile and he explained a few things to me. Basically, a horn speaker sounds just like a bullhorn, or a phonograph, or the PA system on MASH. At first it sounds good, especially in the showroom where the salesperson can have the volume turned up in order to impress you with what the salesperson claims to be it's clarity. When you use these at home or in a controlled environment their unique sound will become very noticeable. Some people like the shrill sound of a horn speaker while others will say their tv's speaker sounds smoother and more natural (that's me). On the bass side, this speaker has an outright neutral and natural sound. It responds very nicely to a bass guitar. Bass is deep, controlled, and open, unlike "bass" speakers that increase the harmonic distortion to sound louder, rather then responding to lower frequencies. If you like colorful sound, these could be your ultimate speakers. If you like true unaltered sound look elsewhere.
