Strengths: Just what you need- no extra speakers/tuners that you don't need. Sleek look compared to consumer versions. Panasonic picture quality.
Weaknesses: None really- BNC connectors are needed to connect to component inputs. Must buy board for HDMI inputs if needed.
Summary: The TH-42PS9UK is part of the professional line of Panasonic plasmas. The professional line, unlike the consumer models, has no tuner, no speakers, no stand, no included wall mount, and if you want HDMI connection you'll have to buy an additional board.

So why buy the professional series? The professional series has a nice charcoal look, and many more tweaks than the consumer model. If you're going to hook it up to your a/v system, you don't need speakers. If you have a cable/satellite box, you don't need a tuner. Most people are probably going to mount this puppy, so no need for a stand either. All of these can be added as options, but honestly, if that's the case you may be better off getting the consumer version (Panasonic just released the TH-42PX75U, which is the new consumer version).

Now to the TH-42PS9UK. This is the EDTV version of Panasonic's TH-42PH9UK (HDTV version). The price of these sets is nearly identical as of this review. The TH-42PS9UK has a 480p display. The TH-42PH9uk has a 720p/1080i display.

Most people will say to pick the HDTV display- It has more scanning lines. I say- go to a high end store and compare the two side by side. Both these Panasonic displays have one of the best pictures around. Most people can't tell the difference between the two when viewing HD content from 8-10 feet.

The advantage of the TH-42PS9UK's EDTV display is that it tends to show SD (standard definition- you know what you get from basic cable/ satellite) content better. The HDTV's have to covert the SD signal and tend to show some blotchiness.

The truth is you have to make your own decisions. You really can't go wrong with either of these displays. I am more than happy with my TH-42PS9UK, but if you want a PH9UK- I'll understand....
