Samsung LN-S5296D 52" LCD TV

(16:9, 1920x1080 6000:1, HDTV - MPN: LNS5296D)
Description: For their top-of-the-line "96-Series" HDTVs, Samsung really focuses on the "three Cs" of picture quality: clarity, color and contrast. The 52" LN-S5296D has full 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution — that's nearly twice as many as the 1366 x 768 p.... Read More

Strengths: Picture, exterior finish, number of inputs.
Weaknesses: Price, small buttons on remote.
Summary: After months and months of research, I decided to finally buy the Samsung LN-S5296D. I narrowed my search down to the Samsung, Sharpe and Sony, due to the space I had available to fit the TV in my entertainment center (this replaces an old 40 inch CRT TV). After taking several measurements, it was narrowed down to just the Shape and Samsung, since the Sony has a larger exterior dimension. After reading review after review, the "banding" problem with the Sharpe, pointed me to the Samsung, and I am very happy with the quality of the picture, and the looks of the TV, beautiful gloss black finish. A real nice feature is the blue light can be set to turn off when watching it, so as not to become and unwanted light source. It has several pre-set adjustments for both picture and sound, based on the type of program you are watching. The only negative is that some of the remote buttons are a little too small for large hands. Very happy with my decision to go with the Samsung.

Strengths: Beautiful showpiece; works well as a central room focus; clear, crisp picture; beautiful, rich colors
Weaknesses: Somewhat difficult setup, especially with peripheral pieces such as Samsung DVD player
Summary: In looking specifically for a 52" LCD TV, we considered this, the Sharp and the Sony. Almost bought the Sony, but liked the fact that could hook up our PC to show digital pictures. Gorgeous physically and picture-wise.

Strengths: Quality of both sound and picture...Interface options & Awesome value for the dollar.
Weaknesses: I tried to find a weakness but I couldn't!!!
Summary: My family hasn't left the TV room since the 52" LCD TV was delivered and set up. The picture is great and I only have basic cable and RCA connections right now. I can't wait to get my HDMI cable and High Def signal installed. Movies played on the DVD player look and sound amazing. I was pleasantly supprised at how good the sound is from the unit itself. All in All I would recommend the Samsung 52" LCD if you are looking for a unit this size. There may be better smaller units out there but when you need a 52" wall hanger this is the one to get!!!

Strengths: Beautifully crafted peice of technology w/ an equally beautiful picture.
Weaknesses: Pricey!!!
Summary: 2007-03-15 07:09:29 The picture on this LCD is simply amazing. Samsung has really done a great job of resolving richness in color with LCDs. I am also pleased with the overall design of the TV. So often do manufacturers overlook style when building electronics. It's almost a work of art. I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this model if you're in the market. There's a Sharp LCD currently available that is also 52", but the contrast ratio is much lower (2000:1). Which may explain why some reviewers reported a disappointing picture. The Samsung LN-S5296D has triple the contrast ratio. Higher contrast ratios make for deeper blacks & richer colors! In this case, Samsung delivers.

After 3 months of using this television, I am still pleased with the picture. I have read about dissatisfaction with the Sharp LCD due to "banding" issues. I haven't experienced anything of the sort with the Samsung. The next step is to purchase either a Blu-Ray player or HD DVD player to test the 1080i resolution. Stay tuned...
