A good set, but has "Mura" (hazy clouds in dark scenes) defects
Strengths: Great 1080 p, very good colors and picture in bright scenes.
Weaknesses: Mura defects - search "XBR2 clouds" on google for more info. I consider this a serious defect for a 3500$+ TV.
Summary: I bought my XBR2 on Dec3rd. I loved my set. Everything about it. Until I watched the TV turn on at night. Briefly, when there were no inpits, I thought I saw hazy clouds on the screen. It disturbed me, but I thought all LCD sets do this. Then I started noticing them more and more during Star Wars movie's opening sequence. That got me annoyed so I searched for XBR2 defects and came across the AVS forums 75 page (!!!) thread on this issue. Almost 90% of the people who have bought an XBR LCD set have these defects, and there are many images of these defects fromm users. What disturbs me is that this is not a cheap set by any means, and to have these Mura defects is unacceptable.
I am thinking of returning mine for a Plasma.

Strengths: The Proprietary Video Drivers and Fluorescent Backlighting make this set. The depth of "Black" without turning to green is exceptional. The OTA Digital channels are "Beautiful.
Weaknesses: Cablecard - but only if you use cable and need more than 175 digital cable channels. If you're using satellite then never mind.
Summary: I waited until now for the price to come down - it was worth the wait. I looked at the Sharp LCD, Samsung 95/96 series and the Panasonic Plasma. I spent 3mos going to the local electronics stores adjusting screen color, contrast and brightness looking for differences. The price point of the other 1080p LCD's were within $200 of each other and in the end it was the Sony name, quality, fit and finish that helped to make the choice. I'm also happy that I bought from an "Authorized Sony Internet Dealer" - the set was On-time, delivered to my living room and the delivery team made sure I opened, inspected, setup and turned on the TV before they left. That's service.

Strengths: The TV looks stunning. The picture is one of the best I have ever seen.
Weaknesses: It took a while to set it up. There are lots of options to play with in regards to video set up.
Summary: Make sure you have about 45 minutes to set it up the first time. Once you find a setting you like you will love this product. Well worth the extra money.

Strengths: Very good picture. High Definition is amazing - standard definition is great. More video inputs than 99% of users will need. Picture settings are so numerous you have to get a satisfactory picture.
Weaknesses: If you look for it, the picture does blur slightly in rapid motion scenes. The price is high, but for what you get - reasonable.
Summary: Based my purchase mainly on product reviews in Consumer Reports and Cnet, along with user postings. I am not disappointed. The high definition programs can be amazing. Price is the only drawback to this purchase.

Strengths: The picture quality is awesome. When my friends and family watch it in HD, they raive about the picture quality.
Weaknesses: Price.....But it was worth it.
Summary: I looked online and in person for several weeks before settling on this TV. I couldn't be more pleased with it. I was skiddish at first. I told my wife many times that I couldn't believe we were spending this much for a TV. A couple of days after we got it, I told her "Every time I watch this TV I think it was worth evry dime"

Strengths: The picture quality of this TV is just stunning, I have yet to see another brand that comes close.
Weaknesses: None so far except may be for the cable routing which is at the back of the TV, not sunken or hidden in any way. This makes the back look a little messy but that is only a cosmetic issue.
Summary: 2007-07-01 18:54:23 The up-scaling function of the new Bravias works even better than the previous generation. I checked NTSC, 480i, 720P, and 1080i material and all of it looks just great. In my opinion, the super picture quality of the Sony XBR2/XBR3 series is well worth the extra money.
Addition: I have now also hooked up my laptop and am using a 1366 x 768 resolution which also is scaled up perfectly. Great for viewing PC photo/video material without needing any additional hardware.

Strengths: HD Sports look incredible, black is actually black (some LCD's have problem with making blacks seem gray), 3 HDMI outputs
* Many picture options to play with, even allows you to customize your pictur
Weaknesses: Delay in switching on TV, video inputs and sometimes switching channels. Noticeable because it seems like nothing is happening but its just a delay
Summary: It came down to the Sony KDL-46XBR2 and the Samsung LNS4696D models for me. I evaluated the Costco version of the KDL-46XBR2 model and deemed it just wasn't the same (the Costco version does not have the Bravia Engine Pro). I think the Pro engine makes a difference for when I was watching sports it seemed the KDL-46XBR2 was much better at handling quick motion (less pixelation). You can still see some if are up close and really looking for it but its not bad at all. Overall I was impressed at the color and picture quality...just seem more natural when compared side by side to the Samsung. Currently have it hooked up to Comcast HD and all the HD channels look great. I've got a Sony 1080i upconverting DVD player connected to the TV DVD's look great on there as well. About the part where there is a delay in switching on the TV, channels or between video inputs, not sure why there seems to be a few seconds delay but you get used to it. The only difference between the XBR2 and the XBR3 is the that the XBR3 only comes in glossy black bezel finish and it costs $300 more. Thats the only difference, everything else is exactly the same.

Strengths: Great styling, picture, sound
Weaknesses: No picture-in-picture option
Summary: The $41 I spent for Fed-Ex shipping was well worth it...TV was here in 5 business days...The picture on analog cable is better than some had told me...Maybe some cable providers are better than others...Can't wait to get HD signal hooked up soon...My only complaint was the $69 I paid for the HDMI cable was a waste of money...It looks cheap, and I could have gotten a better deal elsewhere....Overall, I am very pleased with the service, price, no tax, and the TV.

Strengths: Beautiful color, perfect view angle.
Weaknesses: unfriendly remote control
Summary: I am about to buy the SONY/XBR2.
Saw the demo at Fry's electronic with the 1080P picture.
The salesman could not identify feature differencs between the XBR2 and XBR3.

Strengths: Sharp, bright picture.
Weaknesses: Slight distortion on none HD stations.
Summary: Was deciding between the Sony and the Sharp Aquos and went with the Sony. I have had many Sony TV's in the past and always felt they had the sharpest, brightest picture. Looking forward to more HD stations as they give the best picture. Slight distortion on none HD stations. Set up was easy with the correct HD cable box. It was worth the wait, since Sony was out of stock when ordered. Natures shots are incredible! Very 3-dimensional. Well worth the extra price.

Strengths: Great sound quality. Vivid colors. Nice location for ports and other wire hook-ups.
Weaknesses: Picture image floats when viewing standard cable. Basic cable images also have pixils around images that make a blur or halo. Digital image viewing very clean and sharp.
Summary: This plasma technology is set up for digital viewing and should be used as such. Eventhough, the TV is being used with older viewing technology the picture quality surpasses Tube TV's by far. The Sony KDL-46XBR2 when compared to other Plasma TV's in its class is a bargin.

Strengths: Extraordinary clear picture, brilliant color, beautiful design.
Weaknesses: NONE
Summary: I found the clarity that satiated my meticulous eye in only one television set - the SONY 46" LCD XBR2 HDTV. I researched this and other flat panel television sets as if I were writing a Doctorate Thesis on the subject. Before spending $3099.00 at Curcuit City on this television set I was sure I had made the right decision. I am reminded of my sagacity every time I turn on my new TV. I cannot ignore the fact that this television set is expensive. However, it is well worth the investment and know I would not have been happy with anything less. Please note you will only get amazing clarity from HD channels or from a 1080P capable DVD player. Although I do not yet own a 1080P DVD player, I am more than satisfied with watching HD channels and DVDs via SONY upconvert DVD player. Should this television set be too big for your needs or out of your price range...go for the 42" version.

Strengths: Crysal clear picture with vibrant colors. It is better than being there for sporting events. I have watched football, basketball, and tennis, and it is incredible.
Weaknesses: A little slow changing chanels.
Summary: I watched a movie last night with surround sound and the combination of perfect clarity and realistic sound was unbeatable. In the movie a plane flew by, and the sound of the plane approaching, then overhead, and departing was incredibly realistic. This is he best TV I have seen.
