Strengths: Good build quality; supports many formats INCLUDING DVD-RAM (also burns CD, DVD-r, DVD+r, etc.); 4x-8x DVD-R discs are getting cheaper every day
Weaknesses: Average CD speeds; Average ripping speeds (CD/DVD); No dual layer on this model (yet!); DVD-RAM discs are a bit pricey
Summary: This is a nice, solid drive for the price.
I bought this drive over others mainly because it supports DVD-RAM. This will allow me to record video to DVD-RAM from my Panasonic stand-alone DVD recorder and then copy it to the computer using this LG drive and edit it using MPG editing software. DVD-RAM is also great for long-term storage. You can even edit movies right from the DVD-RAM drive, although its a bit slow. I've also burned a few CDs and DVD-Rs with this drive without any difficulty.
Installation was simple, no problems under XP. You might have difficulty using DVD-RAM features under older operating systems.
Issues mentioned under "weaknesses" are not a big deal.
Will update this review if my opinion of this drive changes in coming weeks/months. Only used 2 weeks, but so far so good.
