Strengths: Great brightness Good Colors Great price - it was the cheapest thing around + it had a $100 rebate
Weaknesses: the 27" monitor has a 1280x720 resolution so @ 1024x768 output from my laptop there must be some sort of squeezing of the image. I should've gotten the 30" which has a 1280x768 resolution.
Summary: 2004-10-21 13:27:44 I bought the 27" and I'm pretty happy with it. For the money you can't beat it. You can always spend $1G more and get a sharp Aquos and but if you want to save some money, get a great pictures coming out of box and don't mind your friends asking "who is syntax"? then this tv is for you.

Out of the box, the TV doesn't come with DVI or RCA cables... so have those ready if you want to test your tv right when you get it. Once you get it hooked up. The picture is beautiful and the brightness is very good. The white was pretty close to pure white.

Both the 27" and 30" use the same housing... so that means the 27" has a thicker frame around the screen. which is my only complaint about this TV... The frame defintely not as sexy as the Sony LCDs... but if you care more about the image quality and price than the frame. 1 1/2 thumbs up... it would've had two thumbs from me if it had better design, but hey! you might like it better than me.

*****UPDATE**********

After doing a lot of research on the web - i found this software called "powerstrip" which I used to force my video driver to display @ 1280x720 - the native resolution of the 27" TV, the VGA to TV output is amazing - the image is so crisp and bright. I love it! (I have the GeForce4 4200 GO video card) In some of the forums i read that people using the ATI card did not have to use this software to force their video driver to go to this mode, their driver supported by default or little tweeking.

Strengths: The Syntax Olevia 27" LCD TV has a nice picture, easy to use remote, good picture-in-picture feature, and looks nice hanging on my wall. Also, Syntax warranty is good.
Weaknesses: When using wall mount for this TV, screws to hang are not as heavy duty as ones included on stand because hole sizes are different.
Summary: I did much research on LCD TV's of this size and price. Found this one to be best overall (picture, functions, ease of use). Many LCD TV's with major brand names are very expensive but use same or similar materials. Cost is higher because of labor, advertising, etc. Syntax warranty is good, 1 year on-site.

Strengths: Excellent picture, free 1st year on-site warranty, great features including built in 2-tuner PIP, high contrast ratio and brightness. Very inexpensive!
Weaknesses: The remote which is basic with common used functions in a slide panel and the use of vol+ as a select key and the instruction manual is worthless, the real instructions are on the CD.
Summary: I have been searching the stores and websites for months now trying to find the best value for my dollar. I am confident that I found it in purchasing the Syntax Olevia 27" LCD TV. I have had it for only 4 days but the beauty of this LCD has me wanting to replace the other 4 TV's in my house immediately. There are better LCD's out there, but this is the best buy for your dollar.

Strengths: Low Cost! I got mine @ecost with a $300 dollar rebate so its the cheapest 27" - 30" LCD out there. 1 year onsite warranty. Amazing number of inputs... Picture Clarity!
Weaknesses: Who is Syntax?
Summary: After I hooked this LCD up to my DVD player and the HD cable box.... wow the picture was truly amazing. You could spend alot more on other sets but for the best bang for the buck this TV is the one. The Olevia is also generous in terms of video inputs. You also get DVI, something a lot of LCD TVs omit. The VGA port means you can use this as a computer monitor, but I haven't tried that yet. The native scan supports 720p and the internal scaler allows you to view 1080i programs as well.

Strengths: Very affordable. Clean & clear picture. Easy setup.
Weaknesses: Bulky remote.
Summary: We purchased this TV the day after Thanksgiving at Fry's Electronics. The price ($799) was the deal maker for me. We don't have any pay service (cable, dish or satellite)-just a regular roof antenna, but the quality of the picture surpasses any of my other T.V.s. Everyone that has seen the TV agrees that it is awesome. The only drawback is the bulky remote, but that can be replaced with a generic remote (I'm hoping Santa's helper took my hints and is getting me one :-) ). We did try the PIP, split & 12 in 1 views, which all worked fine (it did take me a few minutes to figure out how to switch between all of them), although I can see how anyone could view it that way (I'm sure they're out there, I'm, just not one of them). I would definitely recommend this to everyone.

Strengths: Unarguably the best price for any LCD TV. Fantastic picture. Watching in 720p is amazing. Sleek appearance, good amount of inputs for my needs, etc.
Weaknesses: As everyone else has said, the remote controller is a POS. The reception for it is very inconsistant, and very annoying. Not the best as a PC monitor. Has trouble auto-syncing. Who is Syntax?
Summary: 2006-09-26 16:14:24 This TV was an incredible deal. For twice the price, you can buy the same TV with the same features with a different brand name on it. Mine was $1000 with a $100 rebate (haven't gotten rebate yet, hope they don't screw me with that). As with most LCDs, the black levels aren't that impressive, but aside from that the picture is perfect. It's a pretty light TV that will be great mounted to a wall when I get around to it.

I read hundreds of reviews on this TV before I was convinced enough that I wouldn't regret getting one. Usually no-name brands are always complete crap, and the "you get what you pay for" thing holds true. Well with this one, you pay for a 15" LCD TV, but you get one twice that size. Incredible value here.

The one thing that I didn't like was that when connecting this to a computer, it will have trouble adjusting the picture, and usually you'll end up with a black bar on one side of the screen, and on the other side there will be some picture cut off. All you have to do to fix this is hit the "Auto" button on the remote controller, but needing to always have the stupid remote around all the time gets annoying. If you turn on/off your computer a lot, or play a lot of games, or other activities that you need to switch resolutions a lot, this may not be the best choice for you. To put it simple, it's a TV, not a PC monitor.

Overall this definitely is a five-star TV that I'm very satisfied with. I was very paranoid of getting dead pixels, since I have before, but this one was perfect. If you're considering this TV, I'd recommend you just buy it and stop debating if you want to spend twice as much on another brand. This one's awesome.

Strengths: Price. Picture quality. Giant monitor.
Weaknesses: Audio system is blah. Remote is not great. Dvd picture through Component not great.
Summary: I am using this as a giant monitor for my computer, which it excels at in every way. It runs at 1280 x 720 which has its ups and downs. I am sitting a few feet away from it so as a screen resolution, it is perfect. Why pay more for a higher resolution when you have to press your nose against the screen.

The downside is that a few programs, mainly video editing, require minimum resolution of 1024 x 768. Since its running 1280 x 720, the program will see the 720 as insufficient even though the monitor has a higher overall res. The quick solution is to switch the resolution to 1024 x 768 which will allow you to run the program, but the picture will be stretched and doesn't look as great.

I have also tried the 30inch Syntax in the hopes that its 1280 x 768 resolution would solve this, but despite its native resolution, it will only display 1280 x 720 in pc mode.

Bottom line, If you don't mind switch res. between the few programs that require it, (it took me a month before I used one) then this is an incredible deal for a computer monitor / TV.

Strengths: Price: $699 after $300 rebate at CompUSA Picture Clarity is good
Weaknesses: Remote control wont work unless pointed directly at receiver On Screen Display not most user friendly
Summary: Owned this for about 3 weeks, played multiple DVD's, displays both dark and well lit scenes well. Analog cable is as good as analog cable can be. VGA input works really well, make sure set resolution to 1280 x 720 not 1280 x 768 otherwise screen fonts will look terrible from scaling, at 1280 x 720 can use dispay from 10ft away - great display for use with MCE/BeyondTV/MythTV etc.

Biggest downside is the remote, its very sensitive to direction and switching between sources and or PIP is not well implemented.

Still did I mention that this is $600 less than the Dell 26inch LCD TV - hard to complain too much when saving that amount of money

Strengths: Excellent picture, bright with excellent contrast.
Weaknesses: No post or BIOS when using DVI-I and computer
Summary: I bought this TV primarily for PC monitor use and it has been great! Once I found the correct native settings for the resolution and timings, 1280x720 @ 85Hz, The picture is outstanding, pixel perfect. It is a perfect widescreen flatpanel with no flaws. I have worked in the computer industry for many years and have seen and used many items and this has been at the top so far. I also have it connected to the standard coax cable television and I can switch between the two at will. The picture is good for a standard signal displayed by an HD TV. It really shines when HD format is displayed from a DVD player or cable, but that is what it is made for! I would reccommend this TV to anyone, and with the 1 year in home service warranty how could you go wrong?

Strengths: Picture quality, inexpensive price, free 1st year in home warranty, every month rebates available from certain e-merchants, plenty of inputs.
Weaknesses: The remote is just basic, never heard of the company Syntax.
Summary: I've been doing research for the past 2 months looking for a 26-27 inch lcd. I have a sharp aquos 15 inch in the kitchen and was going to buy the sharp aquos lc-26gd6u at a price of $2099.00. After reading some reviews on the Olevia lt27hv, I decided to take a chance and purchase one. On Black Friday I purchased at Staples.com for $1099.99 with free shipping, and also for 1 day only, a $300.00 rebate..net price after rebate $799.99..what a bargain. Can't wait for my cable company to set up the HD receiver this week. Summary.. if you don't mind when your friends come over and ask you that they have never heard of Olevia, just tell them to look at the picture quality, you won't hear another word out of them. Currently for the month of December there is a $100.00 rebate available.

Strengths: Great Picture, very pleased with the timeliness of the shipment and condition when it arrived. Very easy set-up, would highly recommend, can't beat it for the price.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Highly recommend, the unit was shipped very quickly and in perfect working order when it arrived. I was concerned, not having purchased electronics on line prior to this. But I am very pleased and would do it again. The picture is great and for the price you can't beat it.

Strengths: ease of set-up, picture quaility
Weaknesses: the remote is not aesthetically pleasing
Summary: I'd been in the market for a reasonably priced LCD Tv for a few months when I saw the Olevia. It seemed almost too good to be true, having the features and of course the price tag that I desired. 3 weeks and numerous compliments from envious friends (who have spent thousands on LCD's with screens much smaller than mine) later I'm very pleased with my purchase. I have it hooked up to everything imaginable; my PC, DVD player, Playstation, receiver w/ 5.1 capability, Satellite w/ dvr and DVD recorder. I'm definitely a happy camper.

Strengths: Quality is very good for the price. I found it at Fry's for $899.00. You cannot find anything close to this product for the price. Get digital cable otherwise the picture is not as detailed.
Weaknesses: Sound quality is ok. Definitely need to add on to that in order to enjoy 5:1 or 7:1 experience.
Summary: Have heard alot of negative issues with the remote before purchasing. Now I see why. All the money went into the product and the had about 50 cents left over for the remote. Big bulky and not very ergonmically designed, infact its like holding a brick. So tack on another 20 buck for a smaller, more comfotable universal remote.

Strengths: Great Picture, Vivid colors
Weaknesses: The remote; very cheezy
Summary: After months of research i bought this set to replace the conventional tv in my master bedroom. Wall mounted it and Hooked it up to DirectTv and dvd player using high quality digital cable, and the picture is fantastic. I also hooked up a small sub woofer from Sharper Image which greatly improved the sound. Was able to program directv remote for the tv so i only have to use the remote for the sleep timer and to change source.

2 Star ReviewFrye's Electronics has had this TV on sale for $80 ...
Strengths: Low Price. Good picture. Warranty.
Weaknesses: Remote is worthless. LED illumination too bright. Bulky case.
Summary: Frye's Electronics has had this TV on sale for $800 ($1000 reg) on and off since black Friday of 2004. After reading other reviews, I decided to take a chance on this TV. After getting it home and set up in my bedroom, there are two major issues that has made this TV unsatisfactory for my use:

1) The no-frills remote will only work about 3-4 feet directly in front of the IR sensor on the TV. This means that I cannot control the TV while laying in bed -I have to move to the foot of the bed and hold up the remote squarely in front of the TV to make it work. I even gave the TV the benefit of doubt and returned to the store to swap out remotes, but had the same results.

2) The large IR sensor in the middle of the bottom edge of the TV illuminates an LED blue when the TV is turned off that is VERY bright. This is not good for me in the bedroom.

I'd say that this is a good economical TV for someone wanting to use this with a computer only. The TV may work better with a universal remote, but for me that would be an extra expense and the "night" light is unacceptable.

I've decided to go with the ViewSonic N2750W 27" LCD TV which has the same regular price at around $1000 and has a much sleeker case.
