Strengths: reliable operation, simple to use, JVC brand reputation
Weaknesses: large chassis, Bose remote does not operate the CD player
Summary: I initially purchased a Sony CD player with similar specs, but the remote control couldn't turn the CD player on or off!

So since I have had a great experience with my JVC DVD player, I figured it can't hurt to go with a JVC CD player. Only problem is that my Bose remote control will not control this device (or I just haven't tried the right code with the right angle of the IR emitter).

This CD player is perfect for those who want the basic standard in CD players. It plays up to 5 discs, you can add and remove discs while one is playing, and if you really cared to program tracks, you could. I perfer to simply load and let go, so that's why this unit is perfect.

If I have any problems in the future, especially with the mechanical aspect of the machine, I will certainly post an update. So far, so good.

Strengths: Clean sound, quiet, smooth mechanism
Weaknesses: No file memory to store selected tracks on over 5 disks
Summary: 2006-07-31 21:41:51 My choices were limited to depth of the player. Wanted to consider the Sherwood 5-disk and Onkyo 6-disk but they were

deeper than the 16 1/2 depth of my cabinet. Choices seemed this JVC XLFZ258BK and the SONY CDP375. After reading the almost unanimous terrible reviews for the Sony, bought this JVC.

This JVC was an excellent choice. Sound is clean, mechanism is smooth & quiet and all except one of the controls are intelligently and intuitively placed.

Will allow tracks to be programed for all five disks... but, the program cannot be filed in the unit after the drawer is opened. If open to change one of the 5 disks, all programs have to be redone.

On balance, though, it's a very good unit and, given the price, it's a lotta CD player for the money... especially if your cabinet isn't deeper than 16.5".
