Strengths: Extremely Close Shave
Weaknesses: the clock in the stand is a bit gimmicky
Summary: I have always purchased the new top of the line Norelco as soon as it was released. I held off on this new series, however, after some early mixed reviews on Amazon. I finally purchased one last week and all I can say is "Wow"! My current collection of shavers includes the "James Bond" edition Norelco and the current top models from Panasonic and Braun. This Norelco beats each and all of them hands down. The JB Norelco has been relegated to the Dopp kit, the Braun was given to my nephew and I haven't turned the Panasonic on since I bought the 9195. This is the same shaver as the 9190, by the way, the difference is the 9195 comes with a stainless steel travel case, the 9190 the more common soft vinyl. It is very quiet, the battery life is excellent and it shaves closer than I ever thought an electric could. To be very nit picky, the clock in the charging base is (to me) unnecessary and I would have preferred a solid colorbody without the airbrushed effect sripes. That's it.....otherwise mens shaver perfection. Norelco allows you to use it for up to 60 days and then send it in for a full refund if you're not pleased with it. Try it, you will NOT be taking advantage of that guarantee.

Strengths: I will say this shaver is the best of 2007. Very good looking, powerful, and easy to use.
Weaknesses: until now, I don't see any weakness.
Summary: I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas. I was really nervous about it because he has sensitive skin. But I did my research. Thanks to reviews like these, I found the Norelco 9190 XL (although I don't believe everything I read). Even after he received it, I was skeptical. I thought it would take him weeks to get used to it. I was afraid it would irritate his skin.

Strengths: Cuts closer than older models.
Weaknesses: Trimmer and pop open cover
Summary: This shaver is definitely better than the older model I have. However, it does have its weaknesses. The trimmer doesn't work well, and is made cheaply. The cover pops off inadvetently sometimes due to its positioning.
The actual shave is great, and it cuts VERY close. In addition, the battery life is excellent- I haven;t charged it it once in ten weeks of use.
The actual shave also takes less time than older models.
Pricey, yes. Cool, yes. Worth it? Your call.
Keep in mind this model IS cord/cordless. A LOT of the models they now sell are ONLY cordless, meaning if you have zero charge, you can't even plug in the shaver to use it.

Not as great as my old 8890
Strengths: Cool design, lcd
Weaknesses: not as efficient as even older models
Summary: I bought this to replace my many years old Norelco 8890 which has been a perfect shaver for me. 8890 was a high end model so that I would expect this new flagship will perform only better. However I am a little bit dissapointed. Even though the new dot-matrix lcd display and smarttouch system are cool, it can't shave as well as 8890. It almost took me 2x longer time for me to finish the shave using this one. I just saw Norelco released a new line of shaver and I think I'll return this one and get that instead.

Strengths: powerful, easy clean
Weaknesses: out looking design
Summary: first of all, it's one of the best shavers I have used. close the skin, cut hair from very bottom, and very easy to clean the head. However,I am tired of the tradtional outlooking design.

Okay shaving performance - No improvement over earlier models. poor display
Strengths: Shaves as well as most elec shavers. Recharges quickly, holds a charge for over 80 minutes of use.
Weaknesses: Display, which costs a lot extra is very hard to see, dimly backlit. Doesn't seem to shave as close as the older Quadra shave heads.
Summary: Compared to the Quadra shavers, on this model the head can tilt a few degress forward or back -- can't see that making a diff that could matter. Doesn't seem to shave as close as the older Quadra models but, let's face it, it's very hard to assess the closeness objectively unless the performance is very diff. Still, it's not like this is any big improvement in closness compared to the older models. The main thing affecting clsoeness is the thickness of the screen -- that holds across all elec shavers. The display apparently was designed by someone who never tried to use it; it's silly how poorly designed it is -- a waste of money. If you hold it just right in a a very bright room, it's not too hard to read, otherwise, fuggetaboutit. Get one without a display and just charge it when it slows down or about once a week and forget the display.
