Olympus SP-510 UZ User Review
Strengths: many new features including great picture editing, easy to use, great looks, excellent battery life. camera program updating via internet link to Olympus web site.
Weaknesses: main weakness: reset button is manual and has to be used after each manual adjustment....very frustrating. The CC770 reset on power-down if set to on, which was great.
Summary: 2006-11-01 04:38:32 My previous camera is a CC770 and this was to be an upgrade...my advice, unless you only want extra scene modes (21) which are great and the lower light shooting capabilities....keep the CC770. I took quite a few identical photos with both cameras and found that in all cases there was very little difference in picture quality even when blown to A4 size and this is comparing an older 4 meg camera to a 7.1meg camera!! I also found that the depth of field focusing on the CC770 was slightly clearer as well!
As mentioned in the weaknesses of this camera, I find it quite frustrating to have to remember to go into the menu and manually click the reset icon to "yes" every time a manual change has been made otherwise the camera keeps all the changes on "power down". My CC770 was great in that you could set the reset button to "on" or "off" and this then activated when the camera was powered down. Olympus tells me that from feed back this is what customers have asked for. Personally I find this hard to believe.
I am not impressed with the digital stabiliser as it tends to add noise to the picture (grainy). Far better just to take the picture in the "sports" mode with the fast shutter speed, when using the zoom fully extended.
Overall though, I am getting to like this camera the more I use it, mainly due to all the extra features, not the picture quality and not the reset button.
