3 Star ReviewI bought this DVD changer mainly as a music player ...
Strengths: Plays many formats (including WMA, HighMAT, and DVD +R which is not listed)
Weaknesses: Random mode across music cd's, Instruction manual
Summary: I bought this DVD changer mainly as a music player to replace my Pioneer CD changer. I've tried movies and music and the basics all work well.

I was pleasantly surprised that the DVD player also played movies I had made on DVD +R discs. I had read some comments saying that it would play these types of discs and some comments that said it wouldn't. My guess is it just depends on the brand of the DVD +R. I tried TDK, KHypermedia, and Platinum and all 3 worked fine.

As for my biggest disappointment, it is the fact that the random mode between music CD's takes so long that it is not even worth using. It takes about 10 seconds to switch between audio CD's and about 20 seconds to switch between data CD's (with MP3 and WMA files on them). This is so ridiculous that I will not use the random mode across CD's and would definitely recommend looking elsewhere if this is an important feature for you. The random mode for a single CD works fine as long as you don't use a HighMAT format data CD. This is also disappointing because I wanted to take my music playlists from my computer and simply put them into HighMAT format which automatically categorizes the music by artist, album, and genre. But if you use this CD format, then you can't use random mode for a single CD. You could use random mode across multiple HighMAT CD's (using the CD Mode button), but then you would have to wait 20 seconds in between songs. One possibility is to only have one HighMAT CD in the changer at a time and remove all other music discs. Then, you could use the random mode for the HighMAT CD. But, that is also a pain to remove all the CD's and again defeats the purpose of having a changer.

The other disappointments were the instruction manual and the fact that it doesn't play DVD MP3 and DVD WMA. Since it doesn't say it can play these formats, I can't knock it, but I still had some hope since I read some comments saying that it would. The instruction manual is not very helpful and forces you to figure things out on your own by trial and error. Very frustrating.

With this said, I am keeping my player and reorganizing my music collection around these issues because for the money, you get a pretty decent DVD and music player.
