Strengths: Plenty of variety in characters and courts
Weaknesses: Controls are tricky; multiplayer is a hassle
Summary: Mario Hoops 3 on 3 is a basketball game for the DS. The game offers plenty of characters and courts to choose from. While the game can be loads of fun, it takes a bit of getting used to with the DS controls. I would recommend going through the tutorial to learn how to make use of the touch screen to get a hang of simple moves such as dribbling, passing, and shooting. The real fun of this game lies in the multiplayer mode, although it's a bit of a hassle since both players need to have a copy of the game unlike other games where download play suffices. Nevertheless, this game is definitely worth purchasing if you like Mario games, basketball, or both.

Strengths: Use touch screen to play
Weaknesses: Control of some skills could be difficult
Summary: I collect all the Mario series games, even though I usually do not have much interest in playing a basketball game. Like all other Mario games, it is good in graphics, music, characters, cool effects...etc. This game allows one to use the touch screen to control quite a few different movements in the game. It is a little bit difficult at the begining, but this game provides a practise section for people to master all the skills. Some of my friends complained that the last team is like impossible to beat, but I have not got that far yet. Highly recommend to sport games fans.

Looks good, but that's about it
Strengths: One of best looking DS games ever
Weaknesses: Unfortunately that's about it. Bad game design choices and broken A.I. make for a poor experience
Summary: Mario Hoops is a great looking game and shows us what the DS is capable of. However, forcing the player to use the stylus for all controls really hampers the precision basketball fans demand. Additionally, there is an aspect to the game that requires players to collect coins to increase the value of baskets which isn't really needed and in fact ruins the way basketball is supposed to be played. Additionally, the A.I. of your teammates is nonexistent while the computer goes from a cakewalk to impossible.
I'd stay away from this game, it isn't as good as other portable Mario sports titles and so far there have been no worthwhile DS basketball games.

Strengths: Its a-Mario, and he's a-playing b-ball! Excellent graphics, fun as most Mario sports titles are.
Weaknesses: Stylus control of passing, dribbling, shooting is unique but ultimately cumbersome and difficult.
Summary: Mario Hoops 3-on-3 Basketball, made, surprisingly, by Playstation 2 RPG powerhouse Square Enix, is one of the most graphically excellent, polished games out there for the Nintendo DS. In addition to several Mario-themed characters, as you would expect, there are some Square Enix characters to unlock as well. The game plays out as most Mario themed sports games do. You play through a series of tournaments. When you win one you unlock the next. The game starts off ridiculously easy, but perhaps that is a good thing as the massive amount of stylus control required for the game can be a bit cumbersome. You use the stylus to dribble, pass, shoot, and pull off special moves (while using the D-pad to move the character). The game does get far more challenging as you get deeper into the tournaments. The graphics, sound, music, and overall design are excellent. The control, however, leaves something to be desired. The game also features a multiplayer mode (local wireless only) but unfortunately both players need a copy of the game.

Mario sports arrive on DS
Strengths: Solid 3D graphics, enjoyable basketball game
Weaknesses: Controls can be extremely unwieldy for lefties
Summary: Mario Hoops represents the first Mario-branded sports title on the DS. Unfortunately, the controls really interfere with the enjoyment of the game. Particularly for those of us who are left-handed, the use of the stylus, buttons, and D-pad becomes very difficult. The controls work otherwise, and the inclusion of a number of Square-developed characters provide a nice level of nostalgia for the older gamers among us. A decent product, but basketball will need a bit more work to truly shine on the DS.

Strengths: Mario, Moogles, and more! Good graphics.
Weaknesses: Control/AI can be a bit annoying at times.
Summary: Mario Hoops 3 on 3 is a fun little game. You have a nice selection of characters to choose from ranging from your typical Mario and Yoshi, to much more interesting unlockables such as the Moogle and gameplay can be quite interesting. Graphics are nice and the idea behind this game is good, but one drawback is control as it can be difficult with the stylus and the AI can also be at odds at times as well. Overall, an enjoyable game, but wait for it to go on sale.

Mario Hoops 3:3
Strengths: graphics, Mario!
Weaknesses: lousy AI, too much stuff...?
Summary: I was a bit reluctant in picking up a sports title but I figured it was Mario and on a smaller scale (3 on 3). It's fun early on because the teams are easy to beat. However, as you advance to the tougher teams, I haven't figured out how to beat them. Your team players don't help much or I haven't figured out how to best use them.
As expected with most newer Mario titles, the graphics are great and smooth. Lots of things to unlock. However, I think that with all of the other stuff going on, it's a bit of a distraction for me. I think I would enjoy a more straight up basketball game.
So overall, if you're a Mario fan and enjoy the Mario-esque stuff added to a basketball game, this title may be for you.

Mario......Basketball!
Strengths: -Touch screen use is very interesting and it works. The graphics are also very nice.
Weaknesses: -Single player isn't very deep. Nothing much to do expect unlock Final Fantasy charecters.
Summary: What we have here is a game that's not awsome, but not bad at all. You may come to love this game, but at the same time you might not. Mario Basketball utilizes the stylus to dribble and do just about everything. While this may sound awkward, it actually works quite well. If they could expand single player or include wifi, this game could of been better.

Strengths: The graphics are great.
Weaknesses: It took me awhile to to get use to the stylus type controls.
Summary: Mario Hoops 3 on 3 starts you off with a tutorial, where you get the hang of the basics of the game. You use the stylus to pass the basketball, dribbling, shooting, and so on in this game. There is a normal exhibition, where you choose the characters and stage to play on and then there is tourney mode, where you play consecutive games against the computer. After you beat the original mode, there is a hard mode where you play against harder versions of characters. Lets not forget the dribble time trial mode, where you go around collecting one-hundred coins while avoiding the various traps and obstacles. There are unlockable characters and basketballs. This a decent game that could have been better.
