Strengths: Silent. Puts out a lot of moisture. Compact.
Weaknesses: No humidistat.
Summary: I was prepared to be disappointed, as this product promised a lot for a small price. I am very pleasantly surprised by this unit. It does everything it promises, and quite well. It has exceeded my expectations.
The best thing about the unit is that it is Ultrasonic, meaning that it is virtually *silent* in operation. The fan-based convection units make a ton of noise, constantly. I can't sleep with something that sounds like a mini-prop engine running. Sound wise, you don't notice this unit at all. Don't believe marketing hype from fan-convection type manufacturers saying that their units are "quiet". They will definitely make noise you can hear. What you'll wind up with is a "white-noise" maker.
This could be just the thing for you if you're traveling and you want to avoid having your nose, throat and mouth dry up overnight. It holds enough water to run for 8 hours on the highest setting, longer for lower settings. It doesn't have a humidistat to control the humidity level precisely, but this can be more or less controlled with the fan level. It's a minor nit to pick, as once you have the unit you'll be grateful to have any source of moisture at all.
A word of warning about what to expect from a humidifier: If you are in a room that is heated by central forced hot air, then there is only so much a stand alone unit can do. When forced hot air comes on, it is filling the room with hot, dry air each time it cycles on. Essentially undoing what the humidifier is doing. There's only so much any portable humidifier can do. In such a case the best you probably can do is to set the humidifier close to your head. Still better than nothing, and you may be spared an infection due to a parched throat.
