2 Star ReviewHorrible
Strengths: a "new" game for GTA fans, $20 retail price
Weaknesses: everything in the game
Summary: I've never been a big fan of the Grand Theft Auto Series - the missions are repetitive and the graphics are average, but Liberty City Stories brings the series to a new low for me. I kept asking why I was playing the game.

The other games at least had some personality to them. The characters in Liberty Stories are just boring, cookie cutter types of criminals, and hence forgettable. And the graphics are just plain ugly - they're sharper PS1 graphics.

Get this game only if you're dying to play a "new" Grand Theft Auto game but be prepared to be disappointed.

Strengths: Budget title, GTA, great story
Weaknesses: graphics
Summary: The graphics are a little weak since it is a port from the PSP, but if you can get past that you will like this game. Some of the missions can vary in difficulty -like all GTA games- but it does not take away from the game. The story is great and if you view the game as a GTA3 expansion, then you should enjoy this title. This is a buget title, so it is well worth the cost of admission.

3 Star ReviewLIBERTY CITY STORIES
Strengths: good variety in missions
Weaknesses: blocky graphics
Summary: Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories is a shooting and driving game for the PS/2. If you have played the previous grand theft auto series, this will all be very familiar to you. This game originally came up for the PSP which means it has inherent limitations in both the graphics and sound department. This game is basically Grand Theft Auto 3 with elements of Vice City thrown in , such as motorcycles. Since is a direct port from the PSP, you'll notice that the graphics are blockier and rougher than your usual PS/2 game. You take control of Toni Cipriani, a mobster who is trying to work his way up the ranks of his crime family by performing and accomplishing various missions. My problem with this game is it's not as interesting as the previous versions. There are no memorable characters that stick out and most of the dialogue is pretty boring. The highlight of most grand theft auto games are radio stations and commercials which this game has and is often funny. But due to the PS PS limited storage for sound, the bits and commercials tend to repeat themselves much earlier than usual. The PS/2 helps in that it results in faster loading times than the PSP. In conclusion, pick up this game if you are a grand theft auto fan and must have every game in the series. It is pretty fun and I recommend it.

3 Star ReviewAnother Grand Theft Auto game
Strengths: Gameplay is combination of Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City. Improved graphics and more weapons and vehicles compared to Grand Theft Auto III.
Weaknesses: Character still afraid of water. Annoying side mission and packages.
Summary: Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories can be called as reworked Grand Theft Auto III, because this time, the player is back to the original city that begins the 3D Grand Theft Auto series. The character is not the same one from Grand Theft Auto III, this game could be count as prequel of Grand Theft Auto III because some building in Grand Theft Auto III are not completed yet and some events has not yet happened. And so the storyline seems to take place before the events of Grand Theft Auto III.

Compare to Grand Theft Auto III, this game have better graphics. The stuttering problem in Grand Theft Auto III has been eliminated. And the player have more weapons and vehicles to choose from. Since motorcycles are introduced in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, therefore, the game's engine and gameplay is the combination of Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City.

With the improvements made in the last few Grand Theft Auto, the fact of the main character could still be kill by water is shocking. But that just proved that Rockstar is using the game engine before the engine used Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The side mission such as riding bikes through dots and playing RC racing and collecting the packages provided some distraction from the main mission, but those side mission are still annoying and frustrating.

Overall, the game itself is not pretty much the same as the other Grand Theft Auto games in the series, try to control the city by overtaking a little part of it at a time and trying to do some side missions while at it. This game is recommended for the hardcore fans and possibly for those that have not yet played any of the Grand Theft Auto games, but for others, it depends on how much interests you have in the game.

Strengths: great gameplay, great storyline, fun, improvement over psp version
Weaknesses: crappy graphics
Summary: Ah, the good old GTA series. In this installment you get to return to Liberty City, although this takes place before the events in Grand Theft Auto 3. We get to see how a lot of the key players in the GTA3 got to where they were. The city is also a little different, with some places not having been built yet and others in its place instead.

The gameplay is very much the same as in other GTAs. So if you didn't like those, you wont like this game. If you love GTA however this game is right up your alley. The only thing that sucks, is that since this is a PSP conversion the graphics are even worse than usual, as Rockstar's engine is a little dated.

But this is a very fun game, and has the best storyline out of any GTA game thus far. It is definitely worth checking out and its not too expensive.

3 Star ReviewGTA: LCS
Strengths: its Grand Theft Auto game
Weaknesses: same old GTA
Summary: If you like the other Grand Theft Auto games, you might want to pick this game up also. There isn't any new kind of stuff in it. It's pretty much the same Grand Theft Auto over and over. It just contain new missions using a new character. That is it. If you are a big fan of GTA games, just pick this $19.99 game up.

3 Star ReviewPSP's GTA Lite is now available for PS2 at a budget price. . .
Strengths: A new GTA game, just $20 new, decreased load times
Weaknesses: Weak graphics/storyline, uninspired characters, frame rate issues, no multiplayer modes, smaller/scaled-down Liberty City
Summary: In the past few years Rockstar Games has been careful to plan and execute its cash cow Grand Theft Auto series with kid gloves. The publisher knows it doesn't want to risk sales of future releases of their signature series by messing with a good thing.

Unfortunately, Liberty City Stories was originally created for the PSP, and porting it to the PS2 with little to no upgrades doesn't work. While a smaller, dumbed-down GTA may work on a handheld system, it pales in comparison to the "real" console games.

Where shall I begin? The graphics are weak. The characters and storyline are forgettable. The PSP online modes have been removed, and the city itself has been scaled down a lot. The memorable soundtrack of the previous home games is missing too.

Rockstar probably knew this game would disappoint PS2 owners, so they released it on PS2 for just $20 new. That's still too much given that you can get any of the three "real" GTA games for the same money. Look for a sale if you must own this. Financially supporting an obvious cash-in like this won't help the series get any better.
