 If all GPS map bases are as lacking in updated dat ... Strengths: When it works, it's great. The voice commands lets you navagate without taking your eyes off of the road.
Weaknesses: Neighborhoods that have been around for years are not in the map database. Rural
addresses are a hit and miss proposition at best. Bypasses around some large cities are ignored.
Summary: If all GPS map bases are as lacking in updated data as this one, then the industry has a long way to go before their performance matches their price.I wish I had waited until the product becomes easier to operate, and the price comes down to a more reasonable level. The booklet could be rewriten to be more user friendly.
When it works as advertised, it is a pleasure to use, but in my own experence, I have been far more aggravated than pleased with its performance.

Strengths: - Easy to use
Weaknesses: - Initial set up is confusing.
Summary: This is one of the best products I have ever bought. It is very easy to use. It is so nice to never worry that you may have missed a turn. I would have given it 5 stars, but I recently bought my mom a Streetpilot 2610 and now know some of the things that I'm missing with this model). Area avoidance is something I would love to have in my model.

Strengths: Very reliable routes, multiple destination routing, turn by turn verbal instructions, etc
Weaknesses: none
Summary: Don't believe kclutt. This item is very dependable and will get you where you need to go. I don't even see the need for an external antenna. In the time I've owned it, I've never lost signal for more than a few seconds. And these times were very rare. The points of destination are great, and add to the unit's appeal. Some POI's are outdated, but you can always call the place beforehand to see if it's still in operation. Yes, the Garmin has all business numbers in it's hard drive. It's a pleasure to use. I personally keep it on anytime I'm in the car. It will accurately calculate the time that you will reach your destination, among a great many other things. The only bit of advice I can give against this particular unit is this: If you have a bit more funds, go with the 2720 instead. Its the newer model, can announce the names of upcoming streets (this one can not), and has the option of routing with traffic conditions taken into consideration. If you live in a big city, that's a must have. This one does not have that option either, but for what it does have, I think the price is A-OK. It gets an enthusiastic thumb's up from me.

Strengths: Pre-loaded maps, ease of use,interesting voice prompts, very accurate, easy mounting, amazing complete list of services and attractions.
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I thought that the hard drive would only show chain restaurants, hotels, etc. However, it shows just about every business of every type that has a telephone number. By asking the 2620 to recalculate during a route, it many times changes the direction to what seems to be a better choice. It actually seems to learn!!! I really did my homework before making the decision to buy this unit, rather than Magellan or Go-Plus. I made the right decision

Strengths: Fast Synch with Sat, Accurate Map, Useful Business Directories, Useful Additional Features such as "Detour", Clear Voice and Visual Directions, Great Mounting System, Compact Design, and good Remote.
Weaknesses: Would like to see the external speaker becom internal. Also, a bigger display perhaps, although the current display is acceptable.
Summary: I've read over a hundred reviews prior to purchasing this unit. The two units that I did close comparison with was the Magellan Roadmate 700 and this unit. Now that I've own the unit for about two weeks, I'm extremely glad that I chose this unit. I know that buying a gps can be confusing, that is why I'm taking the time to help some of you out there who may be caught in the same situation as I had.
Garmin 2620 by far wins over the Magellan Roadmate 700. That is the bottom line! I had a chance to try both of them. Overall, the 2620 is much more comprehensive and reliable. You may see some of the reviews out there saying that the 2620 unit doesn't tell you to turn "left" or "right" rather it says "east", "west", and so on. This is not true. The voice and visual guide are extremely accurate and easy to understand. I think there are a lot of people out there who write reviews before they fully understand how to work the device.
The following is a summary of features that I really enjoy. These are features above and beyond the map and route planning. The unit is quick to synch up with Satellite. Usually takes less than 15 seconds. It give elevation which is helpful in the mountains. The built in business directory is incredible. I was looking for a "Hallmark" store, and it found one for me within 2 miles. Needless to say any gas and food places are a no brainer. The auto zoom feature works really well. The timing is great. The "Detour" feature has been proven very helpful as well. Imagine getting stuck in traffic, then telling your gps to find a detour within ( ) miles, and it immediately plot a detour route based on your mile restriction for you. How cool is that! I've found many new ways to drive home since I got this machine. Even though the speaker is external, I was surprised how loud it can be adjusted, and how clear it came accross. Again, overall this machine does everything fast and accurate. Many of the features I just mentioned are not offer in the Roadmate 700 nor factory built in auto gps. This is why I think the 2620 is clearly the only choice.

Strengths: Good Map detail. I really like the navigation mode when not routing. It provides upcoming streets which is very easy to read on the display. Good Map coverage. Excellent price, Best value.
Weaknesses: Loss satellite signal frequently.
Summary: If you have a vehicle that has the radio antenna or a satellite system (OnStar, XM radio, etc)in the windshield, you may want to invest in the low profile antenna. I ran into problems with my Rendezvous but had no problems in my Grand Prix. I purchased the low profile antenna and the reception is outstanding have not lost signal once.

Strengths: Excellent clear direction, audio won't take your eyes off of road, color graphics, large type
Weaknesses: Just remember to remove it from your dash while parked and price
Summary: The 2620 proved to be very accurate and helpful in my trip from south-western PA area. Once in the area it made negotiating complex freeway interchanges easy. Also was helpful and seems comprehensive in finding interesting places and service stations, and is easy to add those into the trip on the fly. Overall, I'm satisfied with the unit and its easy to install and operate with minimal consultation to the handbook. I rarely lost satellite reception on the trip with the internal antenna.

Strengths: Great detail, easy to use don't even need book, speaker clear.
Weaknesses: none, maybe would be nice if it had internal antenna
Summary: I have had GPS's for years this is the best yet,I travel a lot and go to many different customers all I have to do is enter the addreses and GPS does the rest. It will line them up in the order for the shortest milage without any back tracking. need a hotel? just do a find and it will tell you where it is give you directions and also phone number so you can call in advance for reservation,can't live without it.also no more looking at maps and trying to figure out where you are lets you keep your eyes on the road and not the maps, great in large cities like NYC.

Strengths: The Garmin 2620 has a great extremely bright and large display screen. It comes with a physical mount as well as a travel bean bag for easy transition if using multiple cars. It offers extensive maps.
Weaknesses: This unit is not quick to pick up Satellite signal at first start up, and has trouble keeping the Satellite signal in low lying densely forrested areas.
Summary: I have owned the Garmin 2620 for almost a week now and have found it to be extremely user friendly. The on screen touch menus are fairly intuitive and don't require much book reading to figure out what you want it to do. I plan to purchase the external antenna to improve satellite reception. Overall I think it is a great unit, and will definately come in handy when I move to a new city.

Strengths: This is a wonderful device to find your way with using Mapquest or printed directions. Automatically recalculates if you miss a road or turn.
Weaknesses: Not QUITE as easy as I originally thought - it did have a bit of a learning curve -but once I figured it out - VERY EASY.
Summary: When we first purchased this -we tried to set it up before our trip (in the house). When we turned it on -it showed a map of CHINA!! We thought we got the wrong item and sent it back. We realized that you can't begin inside when the 2nd unit did the same thing. It found the US as soon as we brought it outside to locate a closer satellite. I have found it to be MOST helpful. It found better ways to get to places that I have gone to for years and we have learned to 'trust the Garmin' - which has become our family mantra. EXCELLENT choice!!

Strengths: Very quick in calculating routes, userful features, clear voice, excellent mounting options, remote, internal hard drive, no need to download maps from pc
Weaknesses: restaurants can be more accurate, display may be smaller than I had hoped, costs higher, but well worth it. Satellite signal gets lost at times, looking to add an external antenna.
Summary: I have researched GPS units for a few months now and thought about buying one for a few years now. Narrowed down my choices between the Garmin 2620 and the Magellan RoadMate 700. Chosing the Garmin was an easy decision, it had alot more features I was looking for.

Strengths: Very accurate, easy to use, increadibly helpful
Weaknesses: None. cost is higher than others, but more than worth it.
Summary: I am amazed at how easy it is to use. It has all the maps "loaded" already on it's hard disk, no need to keep putting in chips or CD's. Tells not only verbal directions, but speed, time of trip, estimated time of arrival (ETA), sunrise, sunset, direction of travel at all times, etc. Also, local restaurants, shops, hotels, distance to each etc.
The dash mount is terrific, both staionary and mobile ones included. And it has a remote!!
Don't know how I ever got along without one! You will be amazed!

Summary: My only complaint is that the unit has difficulty maintaining sat reception fairly easily. I intend to get the external antenna to see if that helps. Overall I'm extremely satisfied with the features and ease of use.

Strengths: Great routing, I find it very easy to use.
Weaknesses: Sometimes takes a while to locate satelites but an external attennae might help
Summary: This is my first GPS and I chose it after reading all the reviews on the Roadmate 700 and Garmin 2620. I am glad I did. It is very easy to use and accurate on the routes. I am surprised how fast it recalculates when you go off route. Would recommend this unit to anybody that is looking for a great GPS for their vehicle.

Strengths: Entire USA street-level maps and POI's loaded (parts of Canada, too), voice guidance, touchscreen, remote control
Weaknesses: Power cord connection
Summary: First off, I haven't had the problems with the cord connection that other people have...so I only list it as a problem because it MIGHT be one. In over a year and a half I have found very little to gripe about with this unit. It has taken me to just about every place I asked it to, the exceptions being newly constructed dwellings and those locations no longer there. Don't worry overly about the map accuracy...no map is 100% accurate. If you NEED to be somewhere unfamiliar at a certain time, be prepared with more than one source "just in case". Common sense still applies here. You say you like adventure??? Turn your 2620 off and drive aimlessly into some unknown area, turn it on and let it take you back home! You'll love it!! I do a lot of business travelling and I use it when I book a room in an unfamiliar city. Just enter the address of the hotel and it takes you right to the parking lot. I would like it if Garmin had allowed updating the POI's by the user; but, then again, you can mark a location and add it to the recently found places. All-in-all a solidly built and reliable guidance device. Highly recommended.
