1 Star Reviewthe amp still delivers, like older sonys but it is ...
Strengths: blue everything display, spectrum analyzer, text, extraordinary amp power, very clean cd sound
Weaknesses: amp heating up, cd laser is very sensitive to scratches, it will skip very often, even more once the amp heats up, bbe function options, menu button
Summary: 2004-08-26 12:22:22 the amp still delivers, like older sonys but it isn't even close to previous models when it comes to reliability. It heats up really bad and affects the cd laser, causing it to skip through tracks, refuse to read some songs etc... Plays very clean when it does work. BBE processing for mp3's is actually very good, but u can't have different setting for different sources (regular cd's vs. mp3 cd's) and it sounds to digital on comercially available cd's, turn it off. The menu button is located on the remote only. to acces loudness (and you will need it for radio) u have to use the remote. Very annoying in heavy traffic. The blue display looks good but it's very hard to read in direct sunlight.

the unit I got had a defect in the eject mechanism, background noise, and a very unsteady laser. sent it for repairs. Worked a bit better but the amp was heating up too bad and the eject mechanism wasn't fixed. Sent it back again, told sony it was a lemon and got an mp80 instead. The mp80 amp heated up as well and it would shut off. the cd tray would occasionaly get stuck too. I eventually ended this mess, send the mp80 headunit back as well and asked for a refund. I bought an alpine instead and I just fell in love with it. No more skipping, no more amp issues, and the unit in whole has a durable construction to it.

Sony just isn't what it used to be. U'll buy this unit for the looks and the the name brand and regret it later when you'll notice the build quality just isn't there.

Strengths: packed with every feature u could want, good looks- both the display and the faceplate itself, the dso(dynamic soundstage organizer) blew me away.
Weaknesses: haven't found any yet
Summary: i bought a mp80 about 3 weeks ago (demo model, no remote or manuals) and the display kicked out about a week ago, and that was the best thing that could happen to me cause i came across this beauty.it's cheaper new than a demo mp80 doesn't have 2 cheap retarded nobs, and the display blows it away (mp80 have a choice of 7 cool colors though). buy this and u won't be disappointed
