Strengths: Intelligent Channel Finder; Out-the-box use; Light-weight; Bright colors; Incredible analog tv presentation
Weaknesses: Price
Summary: I will try update this every few days the first couple of weeks.

Day 1: Picked it up from Sears who price matched on Circuit City so I did get it for $110 less. Online merchants have it A LOT cheaper, but I wanted it NOW. I saw this tv at CC but was shopping for the samsung ??95D that has 1080p capability. I saw the 46" Sony XBR next to it and saw what an amazing difference there was. The Sony picture blows you away with its clarity. For some the $600 extra might not be worth it, but my gf wanted the sony.

First use:

Box slides off so no having to reach into the box to take the tv out. Connected power and cable outlet (standard cable, no cable box). Did the autoscan for channels and 5 mins later I had 3 over the air HD channels and 77 analog channels. HD channels are INCREDIBLE and analog channels are superb comparing to how many other HD tv's display analog. Sound is extremely good for tv speakers. Display is bright and colors are rich. No obvious dead pixels, but will check tonight. Will be getting my HD cable box tonight and so will update with more tomorrow.

Strengths: incredible picture, especially with Xbox360. good picture presets. tons of hookups of all kinds. The best TV money can buy. picture automatically resizes to good viewing format.
Weaknesses: does generate some heat, even the screen. it is bright though you can lower brightness and color settings and help. don't know expected life or reliability. no PIP. remote has to pt strait at tv
Summary: 2006-12-09 09:55:37 This TV is the best. I was set on buying the Panasonic 42" Plasma when the salesperson at ABC Warehouse said plasma was going away and that the Sony was far superior and he'd get me a great deal. I could tell it was better in the store but not by much. Consumers Report has it as one of their best TVs. I expected it to be awesome but have been blown away, especially with the Xbox360. and it's hard to blow me away. The Matrix 2&3 are dark movies and you can see the computer animated parts clear as crystal. The computer animation looks better than the filming of the actors. DVDs of the Family Guy look like brilliant paint markers. There is no pixelation during any images; where you see little squares pop up when the TV can't process the picture to match the screen quality. I paid $2200 plus with the deal I got the 5 year warranty, a power strip, hdmi cable, delivery and 12 months free financing. This is the TV to buy. Everything else is inferior.

Strengths: Superb Picture and Sound quality in a stylish design. This television puts LCD technology front and center in the LCD/Plasma competition. This model looks good in SD and remarkable High Def. .
Weaknesses: There are no complaints as of this writing
Summary: This television is a major triumph for video technology. I have found myself appreciating the subleties and complexities of color and shadow in real life more since purchasing this instrument. Sort of like SLR camera enthusiasts will attest to. My wife is a visual stylist who was ambivilent about the purchase initially but has since repeatedly commented on the detail reproduced. The brightness and black levels have been dealt with making this unit a revolution in the video industry finally catching up to the audio world. I used the professional video calibrations from the AVS Forum website as a starting point with eye popping results. Once again Sony leads the way in Video reproductions. Bravo Sony!

Strengths: Vivid picture, Sound quality not bad, easy set-up
Weaknesses: Price, Clouding
Summary: The best advice I can give anyone, BE INFORMED before purchasing any HDTV. Read the reviews people write. Best prices are on the internet, but beware of the return policy. This TV was easy to set up and get running. The picture quality is extremely well. However, Sony has a problem called "White Clouding" with this model. When the picture goes blank (between channel changing) you will notice what is called white clouds on the black screen. After reading about it on the internet, Sony may give you another set, but the replacements still do the same thing. This problem only appears to affect the ones made during the fall of this year. Mine has this problem and it does not seem to affect the picture quality and I am well satisfied. Even with the white clouding, this is an extremely outstanding TV. It's great to have an input for an outside antenna and one for cable, you can switch between the two. You do not need a so called HDTV antenna outside if you already have a good antenna, it's all hype. Also, you do not need any of those expensive HDMI cables, a cheap one will work just as well, digital does not know the difference. Check to see what your channels broadcast in your area, there are only a few that broadcast in 1080P. Sound quality is not bad. There does not seem to be any drag on fast moving pictures. Overall, this is an excellant TV.

Strengths: Color resolution is outstanding, easy to use remote. Has many inputs
Weaknesses: Price at the time of the review Instructions don't refer to HDMI connection
Summary: I highly recommend this television, the picture is excellent ! Table stand is super, but I mounted my television on the wall, which was easy to do.

Onscreen graphics are easy to understand. It truly is a high end television.

SDTV quality is slightly grainy, but better than a lot of other sets.

Strengths: Incredible picture resolution. Excellent sound quality. Easy-to-follow set-up and remote control. Sleek, modern and well-constructed. comes with table-top stand.
Weaknesses: None that I've experienced.
Summary: This is the finest TV I've ever owned. Picture quality is awesome; resolution is sometimes too real! Sound quality through built-in speakers is excellent. Well constructed and sleek-looking. Very happy with table-top set-up with stand provided.

Strengths: Picture Briteness, Styling, Brand Reliability
Weaknesses: Price still slightly high
Summary: With great styling, top rating from Consumer Reports for LCD 40" tvs, and high ratings from Cnet, that is all I needed to really make my decision out of so many LCD tvs out there. I trust the Sony brand as I also have a Vaio computer purchased this year, a Sony digital camera, Sony stereo components, a Sony tv radio, and much more. I researched this LCD tv for awhile and was actually originally looking at the XBR1, but to my delight, enjoying the price cut from $ 3,499 in August to $ 2,799 at most places. The clarity and sharpness of picture sealed the deal! Go see for yourself and read the reviews from the Consumer Reports and Cnet.

Strengths: Dual RF inputs, 3 HDMI, BRAVIA Engine PRO video processing (DRC-MFv2.5).
Weaknesses: Some SD PQ, especially NBA and NFL.
Summary: I purchased this TV online, shipping via premier service, and TV panel looked perfect when delivered.

Connected the coaxial cable from DishNetwork to the Cable RF input, turned on the TV and it automatically ran the initial setup, and found "NO Analog and NO digital channel". So I switched the cable to VHF/UHF and ran setup again, this time it found one channel and I was able to watch something in a moment... late night show looked like wax man talking, and NBA game was full of grainy stuff. Finally I decided to go deeper into the manual, and cheat-sheet. It turned out that SONY suggested that cable/sat box be connected to a VCR and connect to TV via Composite Video Input... wow, I am not so techie any more. So it worked, all shows and movies are perfect with "digital SD" from Dish, with the exception of NBA and NFL games. Those games are okay to watch, but grainy.

Overall speaking, the TV has been built with high quality, and there are tons of options and parameters that need to be set/adjusted to meet your needs. I am trying to be patient and I am sure I can get them figured out before Christmas.

Strengths: the picture is very clear. not sure about the connection left it up to my husband.
Weaknesses: can't really think of any weakness. if i HAD to mention something, i added speakers to enhance the sound.
Summary: 1st time getting a tv online and the tv is a great size, clear as a bell. very glad i chose the Sony. I added speakers to mine just to get more of a movie feeling.

Strengths: Amazing picture quality. Tons of inputs. Beautiful industrial design. (glass-frame). All the bells and whistles you could ever want.
Weaknesses: Price - it's a little expensive.
Summary: I've had this TV for over 3 months now - and the awe-inspiring effect of watching HD content on this TV has not yet gone away. Picture quality is simply amazing. You can customize the settings and appearance of EACH input, saving your preferences with the input. This allows you to create a low-latency setting for your xBox/playstation input, crisp input for your HDTV, and automatic-light level adjustment for watching your DVDs.

Glass frame is really as slick as it gets...

Yes, you can get a less expensive TV elsewhere - but for a 1080p SONY with all the bells and whistles imaginable, along with a sleek look, just get this TV and be proud of yourself. Get the Mercedes of HDTVs...

Strengths: Price, Contrast is 5 times better than others, Optimized Game Mode which is great for the PS3 and XBOX 360, the hidden speakers with XRS Tru-Surround feature, The Film Mode and many other modes.
Weaknesses: Weaknesses, what weaknesses???
Summary: This HDTV has no comparison. It has an optimized game mode and many other modes. The next closest HDTV(1080p) in contrast is like 1200:1 compared to Samsung's 6000:1. The colors are a lot better that has 25.7 billion colors. Has a 178 degree viewing angle which is 2 degrees from a straight line wouldn't matter u can't see anything in 180 degrees. There is no glare at all. This HDTV is dominating the markets during blackout season and Christmas season. If you have the money then buy this instead of a 37" that could have spent 200 dollars more because this TV only comes in 40"-46". This is the best HDTV(1080p) that I have compared to between the SONY and SHARP's LCD HDTV. Compare this Samsung LCD HDTV (1080p) LN-S4095D to other HDTV(1080p) and you'll know there is no comparison.

Strengths: Wow Best picture out there. Intense picture quailty. Love the new look. Would not by any other LCD. Sony quality.
Weaknesses: For a normal viewer like myself there is nothing I disliked. I am enjoying this high quality picure immensely.
Summary: Looked over 2 years and waited till the XBR 2 1080p came out. Glad I waited. Best picture and of course Best brand Sony.

I have had Sony TV's for over 20 years and why change now. Love my new XBR2..

Strengths: Digital picture in HD and SD is superior.
Weaknesses: Analog picture fair. Instruction manual only fair.
Summary: ATSC tuner stronger than Dish 622 which is primary source of HDTV reception. OTA HD in area just started- This unit gets a great picture with very good audio. More imputs for sources than most could use. Remote is user friendly. Analog reception is fair, probably due to local geography
