Strengths: Portable, easy to set-up and easy to use, automatic preview screen.
Weaknesses: None that I have found so far.
Summary: I got this at Best Buy for $99 which is the average price. BUT... it has a $40 rebate on it until the end of June. That made it a good trial item. It preformed flawlessly. It scanned objects, that did not sit right on the glass, as well as the standard paperwork with great detail. It has a one button approach that launches the software and goes right into preview mode so you can make sure you have the right thing on the glass and that it looks correct. It also scans faster than my other two scanners with much higher resolution for detail. I think this is a great buy at this price and a good buy at regular price.

Strengths: Easy to use.. software simple and self explanatory
Weaknesses: no on/off switch.. but just unplug from behind the unit! not that big of a deal... and in no way a deal breaker...
Summary: I think this scanner is well worth buying if you need to scan pictures, slides and negatives... I have had no problems with it.. Really is very simple to use....

Great for those without a photocopier or for those with a fax but need to copy/fax something wider than a fax machine allows... Would buy again if I needed to get one as a gift...

Strengths: Slim design; quality scans; dedicated operational buttons; runs off of AC rather than powered USB port, reasonably silent.
Weaknesses: Software package does not crop easily; moderate scan speed.
Summary: After searching for a low-cost, preferably used replacement for my broken (I think) HP ScanJet 4200, I came across this well-reviewed Epson. This refurbished unit directly from Epson was reasonably priced, although not under my $50 target.

It is reasonably featured for a scanner at this price and the scan speed is as expected. The scan quality appears good but the software (8-9 years newer than the ScanJet's) is not as easy to use as HP's. With HP's software I could scan, adjust JPEG size, and crop by clicking & dragging all from one scan window.

For my use it will be fine but I will need to investigate some freeware that allows me to crop by clicking & dragging.

3 Star ReviewResaonable.
Strengths: Good model for infrequent usage
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: I am not using this for any sort of serious production work at all, so take this with a grain of salt, but so far it has done well with little difficult everything I have asked of it. Now granted, I haven't pushed it very hard.

Strengths: Easy Installation, Auto Scan, Free software, Affordable
Weaknesses: Buttons don't seem to work, Auto Scan sometimes does not scan everything, No on/off button
Summary: Used the scanner to scan some photos. Did a pretty nice job. Auto Scan function is very convenient and quick. It will analyze what is being scanned (B&W photo, color photo, etc.), scan it, and save it. CD comes with some software: Epson Creativity Suite, PhotoImpression 5, and some program that allows you to edit pdf files. I just scanned a receipt and UPC code and they were clear and readable. Some of the downsides: There are 4 buttons and they do not seem to work at all. There is no on/off button so a green light is always on if plugged in. The Auto Scan analyzes the size of the thing being scanned, so there might be cutoff like if you're scanning a document with blank margins, it may not scan them. All in all, this is a good budget scanner for home use.
