Strengths: Easy to use, intuitive. Quite a bit packaged into one centralized program package.
Weaknesses: Somehat simplified nature will appeal mostly to amateurs; limited DVD authoring capabilities.
Summary: While its big brother, DVD Workshop 2, offers quite a bit more in the way of DVD authoring capabilities, DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator has its niche. For simple, quick, DVD authoring, this program will more than suffice with its wizards to hold you by the hand, but its hidden agenda is what makes it shine. I have found a use that no other program, to my knowledge, offers! If I want to give a client an "archive" DVD (not authored) that will auto start when the DVD is placed into a set top player, here is what I do:
1) I record the program on a DVD+RW (rewritable) in my Philips 935A set top DVD standalone recorder, which places a proprietary menu on the DVD.
2) I place the DVD+RW into my HP 300i DVD burner in my PC and fire up DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator.
3) I click on Edit Disc, which places me on the create menu page. I uncheck create menu and just navigate to the finish area, where I instruct this program to write back to the DVD+RW. In just a scant few minutes, the operation is complete.
4) I place the DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator "edited" DVD+RW into my standalone Cyberhome DVD CH300 and the DVD starts up by itself--MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. What I have done is simply to remove the Philips proprietary DVD menu from the DVD WITHOUT disturbing the contents (e.g., my program), and to make it autostart, too!
5) With the DVD+RW in the exact format and arrangement that I want it, I make DVD+R copies for my Clients.
That's all that there is to it! I constantly use this function, one that is well worth the money for my purposes. When I can afford it, I will purchase the aforementioned "big brother" DVD Workshop 2, which will allow me detailed authoring capabilities. For the moment, though, I can use what DVD authoring functions that DVD MovieFadtory 3 Disc Creator has to offer, which will have to suffice for the time being! All in all, these two programs together are a welcome addition to anyone's CD/DVD authoring, editing, and copying software collection!! If you can only afford one of them at this time, do what I did and start with DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator--you won't regret it!!
