Strengths: Very easy to use, touch screen is great, battery life good (for as small as it is), fits well in hand, big screen.
Weaknesses: Supplied software is a joke - don't waste your time with it. Instruction manual could be better. In low level light the picture suffers.
Summary: The 3.5 inch screen is really nice. It wasn't difficult to learn, even though the manual leaves a lot for you to figure out. Turning off the backlight on the screen will greatly add to the battery life - it seems to be an energy hog. Doesn't come with a firewire (1384) cable but does come with a USB cable. If you plan on shooting pictures at night you'll need to purchase a light. Overall though I'm very pleased with this camcorder.

3 Star ReviewI bought the camcorder five months ago. The reason ...
Strengths: Easy operation; Big screen; night-shot ability; enough function
Weaknesses: quality of pictures or movies is not good enough at the weak light or in the room; a little bit big dimension; less function of software; no IEEE-1394 cable in the package.
Summary: I bought the camcorder five months ago. The reason why I want to buy the camcorder is that it contains the function of nigh-shot, it has big touch screen that can operate very easily, and it can also take pictures as well as record video.

After I began to use it, I have found that it can be operated very easily in the easy mode and it can record good movie in the sun shine although the pictures it takes are not as good as I expected.

But when I record video or pictures in the dark place, the color it recovers is not very well. When I use it in the easy mode and record the video or pictures in the room with the illumination of a yellow-color light at night, there contain distributed yellow spots in the background of movie or pictures. But when I don't use the easy mode and set the white balance to "indoors", the pictures or video I take seem better.

When I want to transfer the data into my computer, I should buy another software and IEEE-1394 cable.

I also feel it is a little bit big in dimension when I take it for travel.

Strengths: Paris Hilton Night Vision, Touch Screen Display, Zoom, Steady Shot, Color
Weaknesses: Pretty Big compared to the HC40, MPEG mode is pretty choppy and Picture shots are blurry with low light
Summary: This camcorder is incredible!!!

First off i needed a camcorder that has night vision, well this has color night vision. Meaning, if there is some light, it will amplify the colors as much as it can so that the screen isn't just green. Street lights amplify it to almost natural color. If you go into a room with no light, it will just be green. With no light you can't really record much distance, but its pretty good for in room recordings. The screen display is huge, compared to other small screen camcorders, this feature really stands out. The problem though is that the camcorder itself is long. It looks decieving from the pictures online. Its not as portable as i thought it would be. Overall it this is an awsome camcorder

Strengths: Love the 3.5" LCD screen. Would never go back to the 2.5" screen again. Lightweight yet sturdy.
Weaknesses: Manual is not well written.
Summary: Having problems downloading files to my computer. The Sony software supplied with the camera causes my computer to reboot as soon as I burn a VCD. I'll figure it out in time. Fortunately, I have a DVD recorder to fall back on. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with the product.
