1 Star ReviewMy problems with this dvd player began right after ...
Strengths: Saves space by combining DVD/VCR function in one unit. Less cords to run in the back of my entertainment center. VCR works great.
Weaknesses: Pixelation, skipping, pausing in the dvd player, even on brand new dvds.
Summary: 2004-12-26 09:07:06 My problems with this dvd player began right after the 90 day warranty expired so there was nothing I could do. I first thought it was old/scratched dvds but then it started freezing and pixelating on brand new dvds. Cleaning the dvds does not help--tried all that. Cleaning the dvd player helps, but only momentarily. The longer this dvd player is on the worse the problems get. The problem is so bad now I only watch dvds on my computer (which plays perfectly fine without skipping or freezing). I was surprised because I thought Toshiba was a quality name. Look at this website for a review of a slightly older version of this product: forum.digital-digest.c... . The problems are exactly the same--apparently mine is not just a lemon.

Strengths: DVD player and VCR in one....takes up less space. I can watch DVD's and record my shows at the same time.
Weaknesses: Fast forwards slow....Too many buttons on the remote....
Summary: I purchased this unit after returning another brand that only lasted 1 week. I don't think that this one goes in fast-forward as fast as others I have. The remote has alot of buttons and I usually end up staring at it for a few seconds before I can find the button I need. More work than normal just to program a show. I just hope this one lasts, unlike my last brand. I would pay alittle more $$$ for a better unit next time. This is however a good unit for the cost.

Strengths: This DVD/VCR player is quite simple to use. It provides good audio and video.
Weaknesses: There are limited options for manipulating the audio setup for the DVD player.
Summary: This reasonably priced DVD/VCR combo functions very nicely. The picture quality and audio quality for the VCR are quite good, especially with tapes recorded at SP speed. Tapes previously recorded on a Toshiba VCR of mine play back smoothly. Although the DVD player is nothing elaborate, it not only provides a crisp and clear picture, but it also provides loud and distinct audio when the sound is set on "dialogue."

Strengths: Space saver - Dvd, Vcr in one. It reads Dvd+/-rw Records my favorite tv shows on vhs tape while I am watching Dvd!
Weaknesses: Vcr records SP(2hours) and SLP(6hours) mode only, no LP(4hours)
Summary: This is a great by for anyone with small space. It plays almost all media out there. One weakness is no recording in LP mode, It's ok, can live with that.

Strengths: Great value - you get a wonderful, versatile, quality product for a reasonable price. Having a DVD, 4 head VCR, CD, and MP3 Player all in one piece of equipment is covenient, and a brilliant idea.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: Toshiba has really come up with a winner here. They have combined their quality craftsmanship with a modern, efficient, brilliant concept! What a pleasure it is to have one versatile piece of equipment to play DVDs, CDs, VCR Tapes/Videos, and MP3 Recordings. It is very convenient.

The reasonable cost and the Toshiba name were the two deciding factors in the purchase of this product. What a great value (bang for your buck!) this was.

3 Star ReviewCan't use Quick Start Manual - got in Spanish only ...
Strengths: Good contemporary Two-in-One design, a lot of basic and advanced functions, space saver, and reasonable price.
Weaknesses: Complications in using - you need at least 2 remote controls (2nd for TV); long breaks of TV programs when the timer recording ended; unconvenient way to use OTR; displey counter doesn't have seconds.
Summary: 2005-05-20 10:01:27 Can't use Quick Start Manual - got in Spanish only.

To use this VCR/DVD you need a separate remote control for muting or sound leveling - a universal remote control could help. A lot of problems with Timer Recording. You suppose to be able to program up to 8 events

per month, that means your timer is switch on always, but you can't use VCR for recording for any episodic program until you swtch off the timer(don't forget to switch on again after sporadic recording). The device

has long interruptions in TV programs when Timer Recording ended. And One-touch Timer Recording OTR is working only after Three-touchs - 1)press Timer, 2)press VCR/DVD, 3)press OTR. In DVD mode TV screen changes

brightness dimming from normal to full blackness; after you press POWER off the device keeps long pause before TV program appears. Display counter doesn't have seconds, and its unclear are REW or FF working or not if TV

set is off. Some lettering on the remote control is impossible to read (CH, SET).

Good things about this combo are that you have very nice images both for VCR and DVD and happily can live

with all mentioned problems - after all we usually have what we pay for.

Strengths: Clear picture, easy to operate. Smaller than some of the other combo units!
Weaknesses: Frequent Use buttons on remote are not in prominent places or proportionate sizes.
Summary: I have owned this unit for 3 months. It puts my old Samsung combo unit to shame...although Samsung did have a better remote (in my opinion!).

After all, it's all about the remote, right? :-)

Strengths: Easy setup, crisp screen
Weaknesses: Remote control
Summary: I bought this refurbished and have had no problems with it yet. Both VCR and DVD components have played my VHS, CD-R, and DVD media to perfection. I agree though that the remote for this unit is really bad, but other than that it's great considering the price I paid.

1 Star Reviewsad QC
Strengths: Out of the box it worked well enough.
Weaknesses: after 30 - 40 min of play it would start skipping, freezing, and pixelating. If it is the DVD's, all the other DVD in the house read bad DVD's real just fine. even the no-name $30.00 refurb.
Summary: 2005-07-18 08:52:42 I have had this for a while (2-4 months)when the family started to complain about the DVD player screwing up near the end of the movie. I don't think that this is a quality component from Toshiba, too bad they don't allow for a longer warranty.
