Liteon HD-A760GX: Too many short-comings
Strengths: 1) Has "pause live TV" function (need to initiate, not auto like TIVO), 2) SP PQ is good (possible LSI chip), 3) Can "name" TV channels, 4) 2x+ burn
Weaknesses: Editing, Non-multi-tasking, Remote, ?Mono Tuner?, Video file by file dubbing
Summary: 2006-10-02 08:17:46 Too many weaknesses. Unit will be returned. I have a 2003 Panasonic DMR-E80H which runs circles around this unit, in particular for editing out commercials (no backward frame advance, what edit point you select is not what you get, don't know what FFD rate you are using (and it slows down by itself from advancing 12 secs down to 3 sec about 20 minutes into the program while fast forwarding) so that you may not be fast forwarding at most optimal speed) -- overall it takes too much time and effort to edit.
Even if not editing, you can only watch the current program being recorded (could Chase Play & pause) and do nothing else (can not watch a DVD or other previously recorded programs on HD, nor can you access the timer recording).
Remote is not egronomic for editing (as the Play, FF, Pause buttons are on the bottom third of the remote).
There is also a very slow response (Rubbery feel) to the remote when naming a title. Timer recordings appear to have the name of the TV station. (I didn't see how to name the program when you are programming it).
You can "name" TV channels to avoid potentially selecting incorrect channel # (can also re-"sequence" them so that your more frequently watched channels are closer by.
- No "Commercial skip" (advance by 1 or 1/2 minute)
- Dubbing video files from HDD to DVD is file by file (at approx 2x). For a 22 minute program (30 minute show less commercials) recorded at SP mode (2hr mode), it'll take about 5 minutes to burn, then you'll need to burn the next file and so forth. You can not select more than one file to burn and come back in an hour and have it all done.
