Strengths: 1.33-megapixel CCD, crisp image, and light weight
Weaknesses: Optical zoom (10X)
Summary: The digicam produces beautiful and crisp images in daylight condition and it also performs quite well at night times. The 1.33MP still image capability is well worth it considering the price. However, its optical zoom (10X) capability may well be improved (since the GR-D93 is claimed a mid-range choice from JVC).

Strengths: Excellent daytime video. Nice controlls. Light weight. Comes with remote which you can zoom in on video AFTER you record it. Very impressive.
Weaknesses: No mic input (as you've read everywhere). Too many models for sale, gets lost in the crowd.
Summary: 2005-08-22 12:02:54 Footage is excellent. Pete Rose was signing autographs at a sporting goods store in the "Canal Shops" on Las Vegas Boulevard, and I wanted to see how it did. I was not interested in his signature, rather wanted to see how this camera did in real world conditions (no second chance to capture footage). Did pretty well in the lighting provided by the shops (overhead lights). In those conditions, the lights are a bit dim. On the ceiling, there is art that resembles the sky, so they light that, which in turn lights the mall. Bottom line, for humans, maybe not very low light, but for any camera it was low. I pushed the "light" button on the side of the camera to improve conditions. The first push turns the light on, a second push sets it to auto on/off.

Result: Video changes to what might think is an effect. Looks like "art" footage. The lighting is more of a very fast strobe effect. The images are brighter and more distinguisable, but looks manipulated by the camera. Not bad, but different. Less crisp, more light. This added light is NOT from the camera's on-board light, but an increased sensetivity by the CCD to the light in the mall. All in all, I would not shoot my whole trip this way, but it is useful.

I am very very happy with this camera. I get a kick out of the fact that it is over a year old on the market, and others are still trying to keep up in resolution and dark shooting capabilities (with a higher cost).

This is honestly the best deal for the money (sub $350).

If you look around, you can pick this up for $250-$300 new. Dont let this model get lost in the crowd, let someone who has spent 15+ hours researching Mini-DV cameras as of 8/22/05 give you an inside tip.

Best of Luck.

Strengths: Very good performance at night
Weaknesses: the battery is not good, it can only hold 1 hour
Summary: 2005-01-24 12:14:57 I bought this camcorder from amazon.com last Dec. It was a good deal at that time. $325, free shipping, plus $50 rebate. I haven't receive the rebate yet, but it is a good deal till now.

This is a good camcorder. Small, light, and easy to use. It has good recording performance, specially at night, when I ordered this one, I read some comments from internet, this is one of the best camcorder at night, it's true!

The bad thing about this camcorder is the battery. It can only recorde 1 hour, or maybe 1 hour and half. It's not enough, when I used this camcorder in Disney world this Christmas, I have to save the battery power, I missed a lot of interesting things. But if you buy an additional battery, I think it will cost you more than $40, or 50. This is the problem for other camcorder too.

Anyway, this is a good camcorder!!

Strengths: Image quality is good. Alright in low light situations. Battery life is alright, but definitely get a second longer-life battery if you want to tape for long periods of time. Nice and compact :)
Weaknesses: Motor sounds sometimes drown out any other audio that is being recorded. Image stabilization a bit bad when zooming far, but to be expected and is similar with other camcorders like it.
Summary: The battery that comes with the camera can be charged in about an hour and a half and has a decent life span. I was told by numerous sales people that it would take 4-8 hours to charge when it's on the camera itself (built in charger on the camera) and that the battery life was about 20 minutes. Don't believe everything you are told.

1 Star ReviewAfter only using the product for about 5 times in ...
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: After only using the product for about 5 times in the last 8 months, distorted lines appeared on the playback recordings. As recommended in the manual, I used a cleaning cassette which failed to correct the problem. Diagnosis by a JVC authorized service center showed that the main PC board was defective. The labor to fix it cost me $150 which JVC refused to compensate me because it was beyond the 90-day warranty. The part was still under the 1-year warranty. I would never buy another JVC product again.
