Summary: I've been tracking down a good set of binoculars for general purpose use for some time now - I had settled on 10x42 roof prisms for their relative compactness and universal performance. I wanted a good performing pair, but didn't have a huge budget for a "recreational" item like this. Initially, i settled for a el cheapo pair from walmart. What a dissapointment! Dark, muddy images i had to squint to see, and hold my breath to not jiggle the picture too much. Night viewing was nonexistant. Then I ran into a good deal on these Meade binocs - wow! what a difference! Do not settle for cheap binocs! Do yourself a favor and go to your local sporting goods store and see for yourself the difference in quality. You will find out like I did what clarity and brighntess mean. Of course, these are not the $800 pair the guy behind the counter was trying to convince me I needed, but I actually could not tell that much difference between these and binoculars costing 3, 4 or 6x as much! If you are looking for incredible value - give these a try!
