Strengths: Sound Quaility; long lasting battery life; plays CDRs and CDRWs
Weaknesses: No text display, no backlighting
Summary: The thing simply works great! Hasn't skipped once, good sound quality, plays all kinds of CD's great. I'm not sure the difference between this and the SL-SX420, but this one has the wired in remote, good pre-set EQ's. If you like to burn MP3 CD's be sure to number your songs a full 3 digits (001 vs. 01) or else it may play your songs randomly. Also no backlighting, FM tuner or even a 2 line text are on this. I just love this thing for the money, you can actually jog and it doesn't skip, period!

The design of the SX430 is one of the most pleasing aspects. It is smaller and light and has a quasi mirror finish that makes it look more expensive than the matte plastic players in this price range thanks to a nice blue ring around the edge that has no purpose, but look good. It would have been cool if it could light up (and the blue looks like a backlit piece) but it is asking for much and things like that tend to eat battery time.

Strengths: It is very nice CD/Mp3 player. I have been using it for almost one year, and everything is still working perfectly. It also has a very long battery life, more than 50 hours on two AA batteries.
Weaknesses: 1. the outlook of this CD/Mp3 player is not very attractive. It is a little bit too thick. 2. the voice quality of the earphones is not perfect, I am now using my own earphones.
Summary: This CD/Mp3 player is not very expensive, and every one can afford it. But it really satisfies almost everything I asked for. The most important thing for a MP3 player is of course the reading capability of MP3 disks one burned by himself. This player can read out every MP3 disk I put in it. It has never encountered any reading problems. The remote control is well made. The buttons on the remote control is not very tight, nor too loose. The battery life is long enough for me to enjoy a lot of songs without worrying about the sudden stop. The only drawback of this player is the earphone, I think. When I first use the player, I found the bass is very good. At beginning I doubt whether it is the S-XBS system of the player itself has any problem. But when I replaced the original earphone coming with the player with my own earphone (it is not a very expensive one), and heard a very clear bass, I knew that the problem is due to the earphone, not the player.

I highly recommend this CD/MP3 player though. It is worthy of the price you paid.

Strengths: * Decent headphones. * Quick enough track switching. * Plays MP3s burnt at any speed. * Can withstand minor drops and pressures.
Weaknesses: * Batteries that came with it dies out quickly. * No display for any song/artist.
Summary: I've accendentally dropped and sat on this device several times and it would still play fine. The batteries that came with it were all used up after about eight hours of continuously playing MP3 songs.

Strengths: Slim lightweight device Remote Control Price
Weaknesses: Volume is significantly lower on some non-panasonic headphones No track titling or search function
Summary: I was mostly comparing the Sl-SX430 with the Sony DNE300 model since they are similar and around the same price, though the Panasonic is cheaper of the two.

The Sony counterpart comes with software you don't need, and in reviews it has a tendency to distort the sound quality at higher volume settings, the Panasonic thus far has shown no distortion, and it switches between tracks just about as fast as it would a regular cd, which is a plus.

Some people need a track search function. You can switch between albums on any given disc quickly, so if you store 10 or so songs on each album/folder, you should not have a problem. A little organization is useful, but the price is still a bargain for this product.

The remote keypad is nice as it extends the length of the headphones as well as makes it easier to switch between tracks.

The sound volume was my only real problem with it, and I don't like headphones that go behind the head like the Panasonic ones inside this package. However, the volume is perfect with the Panasonic headphones. With other headphones it might be somewhat lower in volume, but as compared to the Sony DNE300, the sound doesn't distort at its highest volume settings.

I think it's a good product overall, I'd definitely recommend it. If you desperately need a track search function then you need to spend more, Apple has the best organization in their iPOD's but then again that's hundreds of dollars more than this Panasonic.

However if you're just comparing between mp3 cd players, this is the best one under 60 dollars.

Strengths: the unit is ok for the price, gives good output and has the basic functions required in an mp3 player like FF/RW within a track, shuffle/random mode. it also has certain sound equalizer options.
Weaknesses: does not display the song/artist name while it is playing, headphones that come with the set are too uncomfortable.
Summary: the unit comes with alkaline batteries and also the provision to plug in an external dc adapter. but you have to buy the adapter your self. there is a remote control which comes with the unit. I like this unit, it has the basic mp3 options like random mode etc, but only problem doesnt display the song while it is being played, this is a problem when it comes to mp3 cds with 200 or more songs, since you cant memorize all songs. I so far havent been able to figure out how to play random mode within a folder. the sound quality is ok, with different equalizer options, but unfortunately the headphones that come with this unit are not comfortable. overall i think a reasonable buy for the price. I have a sony player for 80.00. when i use it to play a cd with 18 folders and a total of 277 songs in random mode, the sony player just plays random from the first folder. i havent tried out this yet in the sl-sx430.

Strengths: Very reliable, sturdy build
Weaknesses: I miss AM/FM tuner. But the price I paid is worth it.
Summary: The audio quality is excellent and I get to enjoy listening to MP3 songs as well as regular CDs. I have been looking for a Panasonic player and I got the best price on this model. This is more than I anticipated.

Strengths: Lightweight, nice colors. Good sound. Doesn't skip. Good battery life.
Weaknesses: The headphone cord is a little shorter than I would like it. It's not so loud when you plug it into computer speakers. You have to buy the ac adapter as an extra.
Summary: Overall, I would recommend this product.

The price is pretty good too. The Sony models are nice, but also expensive.

I'm impressed.

Strengths: good audio sound; good price
Weaknesses: headphone cord too short
Summary: I would recommend this CD player to others; the sound is great and display is good; but thought the remote control was for use when wearing the headphones. The description and uses should be have been clearer. Also, description should have indicated the length of the headphone cord.
