Strengths: Call quality: minimal echo. Great!
Powers up with only USB connection.
USB cord is wrapped in internal enclosure when done.
Headphone jack for more private conversations.
Skype launch button.
Weaknesses: Larger size than other Skype speakerphones.
More expensive than other models.
CD install could be more fluid.
States that it only works with XP.
Summary: Overall, I am very pleased with this device due to its call quality and would recommend it to others.
Software:
Instructed to load from CD, however, CD did not load on autorun. Produced error: cannot find ‘file:///res/MainFrame.html’. Bypassed the auto load; went to “res” directory and loaded directly the “MainFram.html” OK.
Instructed to download Polycom and Skype SW. Already had Skype. Link provided to Polycom website. Downloaded without a hitch and ran setup file. Unfortunately, it made me reboot.
After reboot, the SW places an icon in your task bar. Upon load, you can change the audio settings (link to Windows Sound and Audio Devices Properties). You may also run diagnostics such as testing the LED lights, the speaker, and button functionality.
Hardware:
I like the Skype button on this device which launches Skype automatically if you don’t have it up in your taskbar.
The speaker quality is excellent when listening to CDs/MP3s.
Call quality also appears to be excellent. There is considerably less echo than the previous Skype speaker phone I used to use, particularly when two people are talking at once. I did notice some white noise when calling a direct dial line after each time the person I spoke with finished talking, though this may have been due to the quality of the Skype connection at the time. One big plus is that the microphones pick up my voice very well as I walk around a conference room.
The size is more than I would like; I would have preferred it to fit in my palm rather than most of my hand.
