Strengths: Compatible with older Minolta A-Mount lenses, High quality 10.2 megapixel photos, Large 2.5 inch LCD Screen, Built in "Super Steadyshot" image stabilization, Rechargeable battery, Built-in flash,+more
Weaknesses: Flash has to be manually lifted up, no other weaknesses in my opinion at this time.
Summary: In the beginning, the main attraction for my husband and I to this camera was the fact that it accepts the Minolta A-mount lenses, because we own a Minolta Maxxum 7000 and, of course, have A-mount lenses for it. It was a great plus to be able to go digital and still retain use of our current lenses. However, we did research this camera for a few months before we made the final decision to purchase. This would be our first digital camera, and we were so happy with the quality of our Maxxum 7000 photos, we were nervous about losing quality if we went digital. Let me say, we are certainly not disappointed with our purchase. Picture quality is great with the A100 10.2 megapixel! I have read several comments complaining about the shutter noise on the A100. Well, you certainly hear the shutter, but I don't find it distracting at all. I think in the end, all who have commented on the noise agree that it's not really a big deal, and that it's worth hearing for the quality and great price of this camera. Whether you are a beginner or advanced photographer, the A100 offers you much! It has many automatic exposure options which are great for a beginner, but it also has totally manual capabilities in which you can set your own shutter speed and aperture. As far as the built in flash, I have found it to be a great little flash. The camera sets off a "preflash" which measures the amount of flash that's needed for the particular exposure. The A100 takes great pictures even in low light. It would be kind of nice if the flash didn't have to be lifted up manually, but no big deal. I am really excited about my new A100 and can't wait to do some more experimenting with it. That's what's great about digital, you can play around with settings without wasting film! I highly recommend the Sony A100 to all, and especially to all you Minolta A-mount lens owners! Great camera!
