Strengths: durability, awsome amplifier power, very clean sound, the most advanced mp3 search engine, personalized keypad colors, full time text scrolling accros the display, time correction, built in amp fanetc
Weaknesses: monochromatic display (not realy a weekness though), the install is a bit more costly and more difficult than most headunits (requires amp wiring kit, but I honestly love the need for it!).
Summary: I have previously owned a couple of sony's and they all gave up on me. Amplifiers would heat up, optical lasers were sensitive, eject mechanisms would fail etc. I turned to Alpine for the well know reliability and built quality. I was ready to trade sony's good looks for durability, and boy was I surprised. Not only does alpine live up to it's unsurpased craftsmansip, it also kicks butt when it comes to features and superb menu screens. Sony's BBE gets remplaced by Media Xpander. Not only does this feature come with three levels of processing but it is also assignable to each and every source--different settings are stored for FM, MP3 CD's etc.). The sound quality is astounding and the amp delivers lots of power worry free thanks to the built in amp cooling fan. After cranking the volume about half way you notice why you need a thicker power cable, this baby can deliver. The crossover settings are amazing. U can match this unit to any set of speakers, more crossover points than I have ever seen in a head unit. U can set the level for front speakes, rear speakers and subs individually, and the settings are complete with slopes and band width and everything u can ask for. The time correction makes sure the sound reaches your year at the same time from each individual speaker ( works great with subwofers which are placed in the very rear of the vehicle). U can match the color of the 4 main buttons to your dash using the hundreds of color tones available. The rest of the buttons can be set to green or amber only.

I honestly think this headunit has all the features and built quality one can ask for. I love every inch of it. I am strictly and Alpine customer from now on.
