Strengths: Powerful clear sound; Great enhancement of compressed (mp3) files; Veru customizable display options and colors.
Weaknesses: Almost too many options to easily decide on for sound, crossover, speaker delay, etc...
Summary: Recently installed this unit after shopping around for a number of other alternatives. I got it from Crutchfield, who, although not the cheapest, certainly provide incredible customer support and service. This unit produces sounds from mp3 files that I find hard to tell from regular CD's. The endless customizability, and poweful rich sound make this an excellent car stereo, at a price that makes it all worthwhile. Definately for the audiophile.

Strengths: Specifications, ability to customize sound to your car or preferences, awesome look.
Weaknesses: Display can be a little hard to see if the sun shines through the car window.
Summary: This unit replaces an older Alpine so the installation was a snap. You can customize a lot of features especially the sound. It even has parametric equalization. This is the highest quality of tone control available. You can look it up but in a nutshell, you can control BOTH the frequencies AND that frequency's bandwidth. This really rocks for a car head unit. You can also use their i-personalize to create a custom sound, download it to a mp3 and download that to the unit. I recommend keeping a CDRW just for that purpose. If you place the A_Wxxxx.mp3 on a music disk, it takes the unit a long time to search for it. It comes with four preset equalizations and six user controlled presets. You can even control the time delay of the individual speakers to place yourself in the middle of the sound field. Just measure your head to the speakers and follow their chart.

I did this and it's really cool. Even if you set nothing special, the sound is great. I can only get the volume level to 20 before I have to leave the car from the loudness. The unit's volume goes to 35. There are even multiple ways to display the CD text. But the really neatest feature is the one rarely mentioned. It's known that the head tilts to allow cd access but it also has three other tilt positions to allow for easy viewing. In my car, it's mounted about 8 inches down from the dash top. I use the first tilt level for perfect viewing. A little while after you kill the ignition, the tilt goes back to flat. It's great just to watch other people's reactions.

If you want as close to audiophile sound and controls as you can get in a car, for the price this is the ultimate unit for

Strengths: Long term upgradable
Weaknesses: None yet, You just need time to find all the features
Summary: 2004-11-27 07:45:17 I installed this unit with a Alpine F-340 and M501 amp. I wanted to be able to control the amps from the head unit, So I had to get a KCE-510M to control up to 8 amps. This unit has all the features and sound quality you need short of being in a Contest.

The V-Drive {17.4 volt} feature makes sure the unit is running full tilt. Amp linking, MediaXpander, and EQ are top notch.

The sound is clean as it gets. It actual puts out more amps then stated due to Alpines CEA-2006 spec. You can even run Alpines Hard Drive Player and DVD inputs.

You will not need to buy extras for this unit. It has it all. When you need to expand just add it.

Strengths: AI-net, allows you to add cd changers, hard drive, xm radio ready, ipod interface unite, etc. Functionality is pretty good. Very nice finish. LARGe screen. Looks awesome at night.
Weaknesses: Pricey. Custom Lights hard to see in day. "F and 1-6" buttons feel kinda stiff/plasticky and small. Customizable lights are Source,Band, and FF,REW.
Summary: I'm not a big audiophile so i can't really get into detail with it's specs and custom functions. Tilt "Swing Face" feature is cool but not useful when headunit is on the top of the console. Detachable face is good, secutiry code feature would be nice, like those of most mondern stock headunits. Overall i like the fact that you can customize most of the features of the unit. However if looking to save some money and don't really need custom function and "eye candy" stick the cheaper headunits.
