Strengths: Beautiful High-Def Picture, Thin, relatively light-weight, rotateable screen
Weaknesses: Picture can become slightly pixalated especially with non-HD Sources
Summary: I just received the Samsung S4695D. It was pretty quick to set-up. I still need to review the manual to check how to set-up all the features, however so far so good.

My immediate concern is a definite noticing of pixalation when quick action is on the screen. With an HD source, the picture is wonderful, but if a computer generator graphic is quickly flashed on the screen or something moves across the screen quickly, the picture quickly pixalizes on occasion. It is not consistant issue, but happened like three times in an hour. It is a bit surprising to see.

If the source is not HD such as a DVD or standard TV, the pixalization occurs slightly more frequently and the overall picture is not as clear as HD (obviously). I would have to say that my old tube TV had a better picture with non-HD sources than this set.

Overall I am happy with the set and I plan on keeping it unless the pixalization gets worse. I've heard LCD TVs have had pixalization problems, but it's a bit worse than I expected. When you watch one in a store, they look great, but if you're not watching a program with lots of action, you probably won't notice this issue.

Strengths: Awesome PQ when connected to an HD Video Source.
Weaknesses: Some pixalization when viewing Std. Def. TV
Summary: Overall I am very happy with the Samsung LN-S4695D. The TV itself is beautiful with a black gloss bezel and stand. The PQ is awesome when connected to a HD input source. The 1080p resolution is fantastic with a Blu-Ray DVD. The blacks on this TV are excellent for an LCD. To get the best PQ requires some fiddling with the TV's settings. I found that depending on the input source I would need to adjust the color, brightness, sharpness, tint etc; to get a good picture. I also found that turning on the Samsung DNIe (Digital Natural Image engine does not always improve the PQ.

The speakers/sound are fine for watching everyday TV, but for true Home Theater definitely connect this to a Surround Sound system. Programming menus are not that easy to navigate, but after a few tries you get used to them. There are ample connections (2- HDMI; 2-Component, 2- S-video and 2- R/F). With this size TV your seating should be at least 10ft away from the TV. If you are watching from closer than that you'll be disappointed with the picture.

Strengths: Awsome Picture quality and very attractive physical appearence
Weaknesses: Difficult to turn off after watching, such a great piture.
Summary: When I rec'd the TV at our residence and I went through a quick set up We (my wife and I) were even more pleased with our choice than at the place of purchase. The vivid color and absolute fine details of the picture just about take your breath away. After a couple of days I went trough a complete set up with the AVIA DVD the picture quality was even better. Most of all, broadcast hi def material is outstanding especially the Discovery and the INHIDEF channels. The late show is a new experience on this set. DVD quality is great especially with new widescreen material.Haven't checked the sound of the set since I have a separate processor and with full surround sound. Can't wait till ALL broadcast meterial becomes digital hi-def. As a footnote the componet inputs of this set handle 1080p just like the HDMI inputs. Now I have to get busy and install this in our in-wall theater location, This purchase replaced a a CRT rear projection HI-DEF Ultravision Hitachi which isn't in the same league !!!!Have A great Christmas .

Strengths: Vivid and clear picture, 1080P full HD to future proof for HD/Blu-Ray. Above average surround sound but most people will likely use an external receiver system anyway. No plasma burn-ins.
Weaknesses: No cable card slot, no DVI and USB connections, HDMI and other inputs located in the rear and not on the sides.
Summary: I have had this TV for almost two weeks now and I have nothing negative to say about it besides the limited external connections that I have seen available with the LG brands. Compared to the Sony 46" 1080P LCD that is priced 30-50% more than this TV, this set is a real bargain. The black piano bezel really adds to the beauty of the TV. I fell in love with it after seeing it in the store when it was connected to the Samsung Blu-Ray disc player. I have never seen a better picture on either LCD or plasma period. HD channels are very impressive and SD channels are above average compared to plasma. I was surprised that the sound was so good considering the size of the TV. Get this TV if you want a true HDTV that will be ready when 1080P signals are mainstream.

Strengths: colors look great, build quality is good
Weaknesses: little slow on channel changes, remote is sluggish
Summary: I've had this for about 2 weeks now. As most people with a big purchase like this, I researched for over a month before finally finding the best bang for my buck on this.

LCD is gorgeous, IF...you correctly calibrate the tv's colors and settings, remember LCD's are not like normal tv's. I will admit though that the blacks could be a little blacker but again, IF you configure the tv correctly, it's hardly noticeable. Also, with the 46" you can't judge the "clearness" of the picture by standing only 2-3 feet away. This thing is meant to be enjoyed from at least 10 feet away.

With normal over the air signals, the picture quality looks fine to me but you will definitely notice higher quality if you have HD, satellite is great for this. Remember, the pictures on the LCD are only going to be as good as the signal you feed it.

The only thing I wish could be better is the remote. It feels absolutely sluggish when doing anything with it. But fortunately, I end up using my satellite remote to do all the channel changing so it became a non issue.

As in other reviews where they list a weakness as not having a cable card or USB port, they must have not been looking hard. You have to step up to the next half model for these features in the ln-s4696d. It'll cost you about $300 more. But other than that, the 2 models are virtually identical.

Price wise, is what makes this such a great LCD. the equivalent XBR2 is almost $800 more. I've compared and I find the samsung has a much better picture.

Strengths: Picture quality, aesthetics, 1080p, bang-for-buck, 2 HDMI inputs
Weaknesses: runs hot
Summary: I researched a lot of LCD tvs before settling on the Samsung LN-S4695D. I love that it can natively support 1080p. I thought it had better PQ than the Sony in the store, and Samsung gives the best bang for the buck. The piano black finish draws you into the picture. On thing I notice when i walk past it is it tends to throw off some heat, but it is not that big a deal. It also clicks a bunch of times in the first minute or so when it is warming up.

Strengths: Picture and Cost
Weaknesses: DirectTV's HiDef servcie...
Summary: Since I started using the LN-S4695D I have been very happy with by decision. I had researched LCDs for the last year and 1/2 and really thought Sharp Aquios was the way to go but Sharp Dropped the ball this year, dropped resolution, low Contrast ratio, and refresh rate. I zeroed in on Samsung and Sony 46XBR2 and 3 and Samsung just blew sony away in a picture vs picture copetition.

you want an LCD, check out this TV.

Strengths: The size is perfect. Looks very nice. Sounds good.
Weaknesses: None so far.
Summary: The first day the picture was a bit fuzzy on the regular channels but by the end of the second day (and setting the energy saver level to Medium) the picture is much better. HDTV channels are fantastic. I am very happy with my decision to buy this TV.

Strengths: Sharp picture quality, thin panel, not a large border around LCD.
Weaknesses: I have some color bleeding from the backlight.
Summary: So far I'm really happy with my Samsung 46" LCD. No dead pixels, really sharp picture quality. The Xbox 360 looks great in 1080p with the VGA cable and so do HD-DVDs. My only complaint is the backlight isn't 100% uniform, but this is a problem with most large LCDs (you only notice it with black colors in a dark room). The only other weird thing is it keeps a light on the front when the TV is turned off... this light also flashes when the TV is on whenever it receives any IR signal, whether it is for the TV or not.

Strengths: 1080p over Component and HDMI, better price than other competitive models, excellent picture quality
Weaknesses: not that I found so far
Summary: I looked through a lot of HDTV and this is one of the best so far. It does 1080p over Component and HDMI and costs less than the Sony XBR2 which only does 1080p over HDMI. I would recommend this TV without any doubt. My Xbox 360 looks awesome over Component with its 1080p output.

Strengths: Can connect to PC. Very bright vivid colors. Pleasing design. Ease of use.
Weaknesses: No cable card if that is a feature you are looking for.
Summary: I am glad i spent a little extra to get the full 1080p HDTV. The built in over the air tuner pulls in HDTV for free with an even better picture then my cable company. I thought i had an issue when i first plugged in the TV with my system so i called Samsung and they had someone out to my house at no charge to look at it within a day. It turned out to be my own issue and the TV works wonderfully. Its great to know though that Samsung does back up their products with a courteous and helpful service center. Connecting my computer to this large screen really has changed my viewing habits. I can now watch TV shows from over seas broadcasts or anywhere else in the world with the use of my broadband connection and my computer. This TV is amazing.

Strengths: 1080P, price, appealing design
Weaknesses: occasional clicking sound from speakers, pixalation notable when close up
Summary: I have had this LCD television for a month. It sits in our huge family room, and the picture quality if incredible from a normal viewing distance. Certainly a bargain compared to the same sized Sony, which I had considered. However, I did notice some pixalation, more so than my other LCD tv from toshiba (23 inch 720p) when I'm close up. The speaker on a few occasions "click" which goes away with "muting." I don't know if this is my tv's defect or a common issue with this brand. I intend to call Samsung about that. Overall, a very good TV

Strengths: This tv looks great
Weaknesses: Nones so far
Summary: Wow, what a TV. The PQ is excellent on a HD source and is good on SD source from sat. Easy to set up and mounted nicely on the wall. Looks great. Would definitely recommend it. Looked at many TVs and this one is a great pick.

2 Star ReviewLN-S4695D
Strengths: Great high definition picture
Weaknesses: I considered the picture very bad with sources other than high definition
Summary: I got this set from Circuit City. I asked that it be connected to an external antenna so that I good see regular TV n it. I was told that was not possible. They had rabbit ears on another TV two sets away from this one but would not move them for me.

In Circuit City the picture looked great. When I got it home and tried regular cable with it the picture was very poor.

When I got this set home it was around 5pm. The local high definition channels had standard definition broadcasts on them at that time. These images looked really bad on this set. Later that night when some High Def came on the local networks the image looked very good.

My older toshiba DVD player did not look all that great using the component inputs going to this set. I went back to circuit city and bought a Sony DVP-NS75H DVD Player that Upconverts to 1080i. Even that did not look that good on this set.

This set replaced a Westinghouse LTV-32W1 REF that I moved to the kitchen wall. This is a refurbished set I got from Ecost for $599. It has a very good picture for such a cheap set.

I connected the Video out from Samsung to the Westinghouse LTV-32W1 and set it up below the Samsung that sits on a large TV stand. The image on the Westinhouse crushed the image on the Samsung for detail.

I know the smaller set should have a better picture but the difference I saw was shocking.

The Samsung has a resolution of 1920 X 1080. I measured the screen size at 40 inches by 22.5 inches. That works out to 900 sq. inches and 2304 pixels per sq. inch. The Westinghouse set has a resolution of 1366 X 768. I measured the screen size at 28 inches by 16 inches. That works out to 448 sq. inches and 2341 pixels per sq. inch.

I took the set back to Circuit City 3 days later and received a full refund.

I now have a Westinghouse LVM-42w2 I got from Amazon.com for $2000 less than what the Samsung cost.

Strengths: great picture, good build quality,
Weaknesses: none
Summary: After giving the 46" Sharp Aquos two tries (took back because of banding issues the first time, and dead pixels on the second), the Samsung is in a completely different league in quality of design and picture. Everything about this model was perfect out of the box - no dead pixels, or banding. I highly recommend the model to anyone.
