Strengths: Large size Dependable quality; the LCD matrix can contain inherent flaws, hitachi ultravision almost guanantees the matrix will be flawless. Matching stand with custom fit is great; high quality
Weaknesses: HDMI & component ports share video 1/2 input; limits connectivity. Remote does not have video 1-5 input buttons; a muti-select dropdown box forces user to hit more keys to get the job done.
Summary: The TV is huge. The Hitachi ultravision LCD matrix is flawless and is why I went with this product. Sony Grand WEGA was my only other choice, but Hitachi has the better price at the 70" LCD product offering. The picture quality for the Hitachi Ultravision and the Sony Grand Wega are almost identical, I think Sony's was slightly better as I saw both of them side by side. Hitachi offering was approximately $1200 less. I would say the picture quality difference is less than 5 percent and the price difference is approximately 40%. Do the math.

The obvious warning every buyer should be aware of is that this 70" TV should only be purchased for rooms that have at least 10 feet of space between the sofa/chair and the TV. I have two couches and both can view the TV with excellent picture quality. LCD allows acute (small) viewing angles with no problem; plus the TV is so large and wide it make the acute angles seem less of a problem. Keep this in mind if you have chair/sofa that will have acute angles of viewing.

Other Issues:

This is minor but has to be said. I now have to mount my center channel below the TV (in the stand) instead of on top. I prefer the sound coming from above as it is better differentiated from the front right/left mounted at the higher angle.

I had to modify the color, reducing the green. I increased the brightness and sharpness when using the black/white mode. The black/white mode seems to make the black pixels more black instead of more grey.

In summary, Hitachi's Ultravision is virtually guaranteed to have a defect free LCD matrix. When it comes to LCD the matrix is paramount. The price and quality make this the best buy in the 70" LCD category.
