Strengths: Quality display and audio seems to be better than many comparable products. Durable design for its portable use.
Weaknesses: As sold, can only be played in an automobile. Portable, yes, but only in an auto.
Summary: I've looked around for a while at numerous department stores. There's a lot out there to choose from, and for me quality and price matter. I feel that for the price, the quality of this product is good. I wanted it for traveling with the kids, and it suits me fine for that purpose. Adding a power supply for use in other locations would be the only addition to make for this product, with the exception of a few good ole DVD's.

 Emerson Dual Screen Questionable Strengths: It was great to have 2 screens for the kids to use to watch and not fight over
Weaknesses: One screen would go on and off and sometimes not go on at all and it was brand new out of the box
Summary: We were disappointed in that it was brand new and did not work well out of the box. . .it is easy to use and get going within minutes. There is NO battery with it although the salesman said it was--only for in car use. Battery sold separately and hard to find.

 Emerson PDE 2725N Strengths: Two screens, cheap, pretty reliable
Weaknesses: Cords between the units a way short for a car with kids, cig adapter cord is straight and I could use a 45 or 90 degree angeled version.
Summary: I replace the short cords with long phono cables from Radio shack which fixed the player to aux screen issue. My kids broke the wire in the power cord so I had to cut the plug and resolder it; which I took a extra phono cord and lengthened it like the audio and video cables.
On top of that I had to unit failures. The plastic tab that holds the player screen shut broke (from my kids being helpfull). I grabbed a old computer tower and cut a tab, bent it so that looks like a number 7. and painted it black. FIXED!
The second issue is over 2007 Christmas the return trip the unit displayed "Disk Loading" then "Bad Disk"; see last web link below. Got that fixed. So I'm back in business. Helps to be handy, or at least willing to try;)

 good idea, poor quality item Strengths: great for two kids
Weaknesses: trouble accessing the dvd after only six weeks. "Bad Disc" error on every disc--even brand new ones. Makes a 'crunching' sound and won't work.
Summary: "bad disc" error every time now, no matter what the dvd (even new ones). Great idea, Great Price, POOR QUALITY item. Very short Life Span--six weeks.
The portable panasonic DVD player I have had for years--took a beating with two kids and still works. Hopefully emerson will stand behind this poor quality product.

A Risky buy
Strengths: Video and Audio Quality
Weaknesses: Unreliable, no battery, screen cannot be adjusted, only one head phone.
Summary: I tried the first piece. Didn't recognize the DVD at all after 2 minutes of playing. Went and got the second piece which seems to be working fine for now. However, I have lost trust on this brand now.

Decent value for money
Strengths: Worked right out of the box.
Fairly good audio and video.
Weaknesses: No A/C outlet adapter.
No battery.
Only one pair of headphones.
Summary: 2006-07-20 06:20:57 This is actually a Polaroid player branded and sold under the Emerson label (see the Polaroid PDM-2727 and PDM-2737 for comparison).
The lack of a battery is particularly felt since I need to unplug my GPS device everytime I need to use this DVD player.
The dual screens are a blessing since each of my kids gets her own little screen.
There is no information at all about accessories - carrying case, A/C adapter, battery etc.
But for $150 ($180 retail - $30 rebate) it is certainly pretty decent value for the money.
Based upon my experience I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cheap no frills player with dual screens. However, it might actually work out cheaper to get two single screen players.

Strengths: Dual screens for kids not to fight over. Great price of $99.99 AR
Weaknesses: NO battery or ac adaptor
Summary: This is a good addition to our family. It has made long car rides enjoyable. The units are light weight and attach easily to the head rest of the car. I wish the cords to connect the units were longer so they wound not hang from seat to seat and adding a power supply for use in other locations. For short trips I wish the unit would resume play where it left off and not restart the DVD at the beginning. (maybe I have not found that setting yet.)

Upset
Strengths: Very easy use for car
Weaknesses: Too many cables-and it quit working after only 6 months-it keeps saying bad disc and when I called they said I would have to buy another at a "discounted" price-WHAT a WASTE of MONEY!!!
Summary: I am very upset that the warranty did not cover mechanical problems-after 6 months the $250 I spent went down the tube-EVery disc reads Bad Disc-They said I could send it back for a new one at a

HORRIBLE buy
Strengths: it was great...the ONE time it worked
Weaknesses: Stopped working in the middle of the SECOND time ever using it but was over 90 days so Emerson refused any assistance
Summary: Very poor customer service. It is obvious this has very limited use. Most of the accessories are still in the original plastic!! The screens still has the plastic film on it. This is apparent this was a defective product and Emerson should step up but refuses. I wouldn't buy anything with Emerson name on it just for that reason if none other.

Still Waiting
Strengths: Nice to look at. All black matches all interiors. Nice sound.
Weaknesses: Unreliable screens. Too many cords.
Summary: Got to watch it for literally 10 minutes before the main screen went out. Company (Polaroid) was very helpful and is sending a new player. Way too many cords. I put the players on the back of the front seats in my mini-van and there are cords running between them, very sloppy looking and inconvenient. I tried to put one on the headrest of the middle seat so my kids in the back could see but the cords were not long enough to be out of the way. I wish, at least, that the cords were long enough to be able to be tucked in the trim of the roof. I could handle 1 cord coming down from the roof and into the player. It would look much nicer. Unfortunately I'll probably end up duct taping them so no one trips. That will look great, I'm sure.

Strengths: Price. Appearance.
Weaknesses: Can only be used in car (with supplied accessories). Lack of accessories/support. Short warranty period.
Summary: 2007-01-08 19:52:29 For the price (after coupon and rebate), this is a very nice portable dual screen DVD player. This product has the potential to be a very versatile player with the optional accessories mentioned in the manual. Unfortunately, nowhere is it mentioned where or how to purchase them. I bought a car charger to home wall converter from eBay and it worked fine for my cell phone, and GBA car chargers - but it couldn't supply enough juice for the DVD player (the display came on, but was barely visible). The manual describes how to hook up the player to your TV (and even includes the AV cable), but I have no way to power the player outside of my car.
It seems that this particular model is only sold at circuit city. I recently saw the PDE-2722 on walmart.com. I think the only difference is the PDE-2722 comes with 2 headphones instead of 1 for the PDE-2717.
One last thing to note: the specifications page on circuitcity.com says there is no remote, but this product DOES come with a remote.

Emerson DVD
Strengths: Easy to use and reasonably priced
Weaknesses: No battery so cannot us outside of auto/Car adapter is easily manipulated by children making it easy to lose pieces-door hinges are weak and can be broken easily/ 90 day warranty
Summary: Ok but used it 3X and the hinge on the door broke and the company would not warranty it. $110 replacement cost and shipping for replacement of the main unit. Will not buy an Emerson Product again.
