3 Star Reviewnot so bad
Strengths: small, lithium battery.
Weaknesses: plastic case, have to hold the talk button about 2-3 second before can talk.
Summary: Good for traveller. I had the midland radios before, I think midland it's a little bit better than cobra. Cobra just a band name like "intel"...

2 Star ReviewCobra microTALK 17-Mile, 2-Way Radios
Strengths: Good price for features.
Weaknesses: Range not 17 miles - See comments below
Summary: Review for: Cobra microTALK 17-Mile, 22-Channel FRS/GMRS 2-Way Radios

Can you really get a 17 mile range? Don't hold your breath. The only possible way you may get a range as advertised would be if you and your partner you are talking with are on top of two mountains, in line of sight with each other and the squelch has been turned off as well as the air being suited for best range. Then and only then can you really get the 17 mile range.

In reality, you MIGHT get about 10 miles in a flatland area without houses or buildings in the way. In my normal setup, in a normal neighborhood, I was about to get about a mile with mild dropouts. You may get a few miles of range if you are traveling down the interstate and talking to another car traveling with you.

These radios are great for general communication but don't expect to get the even 10 mile range in normal areas.

The weather radio built in is wonderful. It picks up NOAA radio well and the volume is loud and clear even on low volume settings. End of Review.

Strengths: Well made and tone quality is superb.
Weaknesses: Directions are a little fuzzy to start but experimentation works wonders at figuring out what they will do.
Summary: I've been using these walkie-talkies for about a week now and they are well made and high quality. The tone quality is good and while they might not reach quite as far as claimed they do have good range. They are used primarily car to car as we drive cars around for dealer trades and just to stay in touch.

Strengths: Ease of use, size and signal distance
Weaknesses: A better explanation could have been provided of the differences, if any, between the two types of security codes used in the radios.
Summary: These two-way radio units are much smaller than others I've owned, while providing extended range coverage that exceeds that of much larger units. They're also relatively easy to use. I recommend them for travelers who wish to maintain access with other family members without the cost of out of area cellular calls.
