Strengths: Good power, has all the basic features
Weaknesses: No master ability, does not rotate 180 deg in both directions
Summary: 2006-09-13 22:19:10 This is a great little flash for the price. However, I can't help but think I should have paid the 150 or so more and gotten the 580EX. The power is decent, but bouncing in a large room is marginal sometimes. Other than that and the lack of mastering, it is a great flash. Bear in mind that it doesn't support all focus points with AF assist on a 1-series body. However, I doubt anyone with a 1 series camera will be using this over the 580EX. A great starter flash as the 2xx series flashes are virtually uselss.

Strengths: Built well, easy to use, fast recycle time
Weaknesses: Not as automatic as I'd like, uses AA batteries
Summary: Honestly, I know practically nothing about flash photography and am still learning. I finally decided to get this when I found my built-in flash too weak. Plus, the camera lens was partially obscuring the flash. The flash itself is solidly constructed and comes with a nice case. It's bright and provides all the light I need. Plus, the recycle time is extremely fast. The flash recharges almost immediately. Lastly, it required practically no brain power for me to figure out how to use it.

The only true downside is that it doesn't seem to communicate certain things properly. For example, if I'm shooting under aperture priority mode, the shutter speed doesn't seem to properly adjust itself when using the flash. Another downside for me is that it uses AA batteries. I'd prefer rechargeables, but this isn't necessarily a weakness for other people.
