Strengths: STRONG cantilever mount, detailed instructions, awesome customer support, clean look
Weaknesses: Thicker than I thought, so flat panel is not flush with wall, but then again, this is not a flat mount.
Summary: This is an awesome mount. It is very sturdy and very heavy...35+ pounds.
The beautiful thing about this mount is that it allows for mounting the main wall plate on 2 studs, whether 12" or 16" on center. The middle top and bottom horizontal grooves on the wall plate then allow for appropriate adjustment of the cantilever plate. So, if you have a tight area (next to a fireplace or mantel, you can "center" the TV to fit how you like, even if the stud placements are not exactly in the middle.
This mount allows for pulling the panel away from the wall, allows for numerous pivots and manipulation of the TV. The mount also provides horizontal "leveling" of your panel easily.
While a little time intensive, the mounting can be done by one person who is a little handy. Process:
(1) identify TV placement on wall (uppermost height and vertical placement),
(2) find 2 studs in that area,
(3) upper height of mounting plate is a few inches lower than upper height of panel, so determine upper height of mounting wall plate,
(4) drill pilot holes for 2 upper corner holes of mounting plate,
(5) mount plate to wall,
(6) drill pilot holes for 2 lower corner holes of mounting plate
(7) Attach cantilever plate
(8) Attach TV adapter plate to TV
(9) Attach TV adapter plate to cantilever plate (2 people may be required)
(10) Make necessary adjustments to level TV
(11) Enjoy your new mounted TV*
*For a clean finish, you'll need to feed cables in the wall to your video/audio source. Figure this piece out BEFORE mounting TV. The mounting wall plate has 2 square areas on the lower half to enable fitting of wall plates to accommodate a power outlet and plugs for audio/video equipment. Suggestion: instead of using plugs for RCA, composite, component, HDMI, etc., just get a flipping door where the cable can come directly out from the wall. Cheaper and more versatile for future expansion. Suggestion2: if possible, install conduits in the wall to enable easier cable pulling in the future.
Weakness: Only one is that of my mind. I had originally visualized the panel being flat against the wall, but the wall plate and cantilever arms (when folded tight) are still about 6 inches wide, so the back of the TV will protrude 6 inches from the wall. Not a big deal, but if you are looking for a flusher mount, you may have to consider a different mount (SANUS maybe?) if one exists.
