Strengths: Exceptional Picture Quality
Lots of Features for the Price
Weaknesses: None So Far
Minor Weeknesses:
Sound - (True of all portable DVD players)
Somewhat Noisy DVD Drive - (Again true for most portable DVD players)
** See Comments **
Summary: For the price I paid and the features I desired, this portable DVD player is almost perfect. I don't know how many portable DVD players I played with, and actually physically tested and handled? Not to mention the research I did and reviews I read on-line.
Quickly I narrowed my brand choices - Panasonic, Philips and Toshiba.
Then based upon how much I wanted to spend, it was down to Philips and Toshiba.
The picture quality on this unit is one of, if not the best I encountered. This in my opinion, is the most important aspect of any potable DVD player. The sound on pretty much all of the portable players I tested is what you would expect. It's not a surround sound portable home theater here. I use good quality Sennheiser headphones, and the sound is great. I set the EQ to "Rock", the best preset EQ on the unit.
For all the features, accessories and the price I paid. I don't think I could have picked a better unit. It finally can down to the three Philips portable DVD players. The 7", 8.5" and the 10.2". I'm glad I decided to pay the $50.00 extra for the 10.2" over the 8.5". Actually, the 7" player has better picture quality then the 8.5". They have the same resolution, 480 x 234, only the 8.5" model has larger pixel pitch to make the screen larger.
I would have preferred the contemporary piano-white top cover on the 7" and 8.5" models over the silver one on this unit. But, when you put on the included protective case (which I have on all the time) you don't even see the outside of the unit. The accessories and remotes are the same for all three players. A case is not included with the 7" player, it is with the 8.5" and 10.2" units (bonus). You will play $10.00 for a Philips case at Wal*Mart.
As for the noise from the DVD drive. If you held the DVD player in your television cabinet in you lap, you'd hear some drive noise. This and the built-in speaker quality are non issues in my opinion Even the built-in stereo speakers on this unit are decent.
I've had my player since Christmas, and have not had one problem. This player has so many features, and inputs and outputs it's ridiculous.
As long as this player continues to perform, hopefully a long time. Although, you do get a (1)year limited warranty. I don't foresee any problems. I'll keep you posted if my player stops working or malfunctions.
All and all a winner.

Strengths: picture quality, design and looks, good sounding
Weaknesses: expensive, hard to locate
Summary: I was very impressed by the picture quality, it appears like viewing on a good home t.v. The design and looks of the unit are very appealing as the 10 " screen. It is also very decent sounding through the built in speakers. The only weakness I found so far, is that it was expensive,$349 at a circut city but I had a 10% off coupon and received another 5% off on future purchases there using their charge card. Also, it was hard to shop around for it being it was difficult to locate at any other store,I assume it hasn't been placed on the market here yet. Even without coupons, it is worth it, if you can afford it, but better if you can use coupons/discounts as I did. I wound up paying $299.24.

Strengths: Excellent picture! Easy to operate. Comes complete with car accessories and adaptors. Very clear picture and plays virtually all DVD formats.
Weaknesses: Sound is a little weak, but very good with earphones. Travel bag that goes on the back of the car seat doesn't fit well with the battery attached. Battery is very very bulky in the rear of the unit.
Summary: I purchased this player for my children to watch when on long trips. I was very impressed with the picture quality and ease of use. Also impressive is that it will play all DVD formats. I’ve tried a purchased DVD as well as a DVD +R. The quality is still just as good. It was a little pricey, but well worth it compared to other hi end brands. The remote is very small and compact, a little larger than a credit card.

Strengths: High Resolution LCD
Long Battery Life
Weaknesses: No Disk Resume Play
Summary: I bought two of these for my kids for long travels, but I ended up using more than them. The screen is bright and very sharp (no screen window effect). Just think about a nice notebook screen. I looked PET824 and Sony DVP-FX810 but the resolution of those models is about half of this model and it shows. Sony's screen was too shiny and I couldn't stand the glare. It plays DIVX without flaws and it also has nice set of digital audio processing that can be useful if you would use it for MP3 player or music videos. Virtual Surround works well with headphones and I could even tell the difference through the tiny speakers. Don't worry about the disk loading noise. It's not that bad. My notebook makes a louder noise. I would give it five stars only if it had disk resume. If you turn it off, the movie starts from the beginning. It's OK for me but I have to help kids finding the scene. But you can just close the screen after a stop instead of turning the unit off. It will put it in sleep mode after five minutes or so. Don't worry about battery, I watched 3 movies in normal setting and it keeps going. The included backseat attachment works well with our Honda Odyssey. It's a bit pricey but you should be able to find the right price if you get lucky.

Strengths: Picture quality, universal power adaptor (120-240v), car adaptor, car seat mount, carry bag and long battery life.
Weaknesses: Quite expensive, volume a lil low with onboard speakers
Summary: Awesome DVD player. We travel quite a bit with our daughter. This works very well for our travels. Will work in every country as the power adapter is universal. Also comes with a bag to carry. The bag has a seat mount to attach the DVD player in the car. Love this player.

Strengths: Amazing screen comparable to an LCD at home
Huge screen
Great for the kids, better for me :)
Weaknesses: When you put the DVD, it is a bit loud as it rev's up
Summary: I was blown away by this DVD player!!! None that I owned in the past come close. The screen is as good quality wise as any large LCD I have seen... Battery life is more than I ever need. I was hesitant to spend this much on a portable DVD player, but am glad I did.

Strengths: The Phillips PET1002 has all the features and great picture on the 10" LCD screen. I find it light weight since I carry it in my backpack as I travel.
Weaknesses: Expensive and the DVD drive can be noisy. Battery is big and heavy if you want to carry it with you.
Summary: Looked at many DVD portable players before I choose this one. You can find it on the internet cheaper than at your local stores. Comes with a great carring case to protect it.

Great Picture, but where's the hold feature?
Strengths: Beautiful big picture. Good battery life.
Weaknesses: No HOLD feature!
Summary: I purchased this player based in great part on the recommendations of the reviews on this site. The picture, when compared to others in its category is very good (it's not HD, but the portable HD-DVD/Blueray players don't exist yet).
However, I was horrified that I found no hold feature to prevent my 20 month old from stpopping/pausing/fast forwarding/etc. the Baby Einstein we were watching on the plane! We ended up not even being able to use it on the flight that I got this player for. Now, I'm forced to tape a piece of cardboard over the control area to use this thing. I went to a nearby Circuit City, and much to my dismay almost all of the other models had a hold feature - just not the Philips (and none had a picture as good). What were they thinking?
If you are a toddler-less adult, then this is a great player. If you've got an exploratory youngster, either wait until they are older, or get another player.

Strengths: Nice design. Impressive build quality. Easy to use.
Weaknesses: a little heavier than i like, but thats ok for the quality.
Summary: If you are movie watcher, this is a must have for you on the go. Watch it while you are flying, camping out for PS3 outside of Best Buy.
I really liked this baby.

Strengths: Great screen size and brightness, easy to use, plays EVERYTHING!
Weaknesses: A little pricey.
Summary: This DVD player is absolutely fantastic, playing everything under the sun and with a huge (10.2"), bright LCD screen. Philips definitely shows its engineering expertise with this baby -- about the closest to a great DVD experience in a mobile player anywhere.

Strengths: Big screen, good picture, and it plays everything!
Weaknesses: Battery awkward
Summary: We picked this up for a long international flight. Battery power was great, even better to plug in to the DC adapter. Like everyone else has mentioned, the spinning disc can get quite noisy but it's not exactly distracting - especially with headphones on. The clip on battery is a little awkward and makes you wonder how long it'll last like that

Strengths: super nice high res picture, easy controls and nice remote control
Weaknesses: the only thing i don't like is when i am watching a movie and stop the player it wont start back up where i left off. Have to FF to the part
Summary: I bought this player used on Ebay for a little over $100 and feel that overall it is a really nice player. It has the highest quality picture i have seen on a portable player. As for the sound, you read alot of reviews complaining the sound is weak .. to me the sound is fine, i found there are ways to adjust sound on set up menus including different equalizer setting and reverb. Some of these actually increase the volume
