2 Star ReviewI consider this effort by Creative mediocre, at be ...
Strengths: Massive storage capacity, compact design, supports multiple audio formats, good sound quality, can be used for simple (non-audio) file storage, “peppy” transfer performance.
Weaknesses: Awkward non-intuitive interface, small display w/ poor backlighting, long startup delays with large audio files, controls inaccessible from carrying case, uncomfortable earbuds, uninspired styling.
Summary: I consider this effort by Creative mediocre, at best. The control buttons are just too small and awkward. I can’t believe you actually have to REMOVE the player from the carrying case to manipulate the interface, you can’t even see the display! Initially baffled by this design decision, I’ve since come to understand that I’m expected to buy a separate remote control whenever I use the case (they’ve got to be kidding, why isn’t this included, esp. at this price level). The interface itself is confusing, even after several months of use, I find myself getting lost attempting to hunt down a song and manipulate it. Text display is too small, and is particularly difficult to read w/ blue backlight in low light conditions. Included software is more trouble than its worth, and slooooooow, I’ve uninstalled it and simply use Windows Explorer to manage all my files. Sound quality is quite good, but expect to invest in a good pair of earbuds or headphones, as the supplied ones hurt my ears after a mere 30 minutes. In summary, PLUSES (storage capacity, sound quality, audio compatibility, transfer performance), MINUSES (user interface, ergonomics, earbuds, software, styling). I would NOT buy again (IMO, too many minuses to warrant placement at this price level) and regret having not spent the money on a better (if more expensive) item like the iPod.
